  • Day 4. So far so good

Hello. My name is Michelle and I started Atkins 4 days ago after 1 month at the gym produced NO RESULTS. I am 32 and my daughter is 10 months old and I weigh almost as much as I did at 8mo. pregnant. I kept expecting the weight to just fall off like it did ten years ago, after I had my son, but I guess its not gonna happen that way. I have been overweight off and on my whole life. My first diet was at 8 years old. My highest weight has been 315, currently 250, but i tend to cruise up to 280 very easily when I get depressed or stressed. I am 6ft so, I look best at 180 but rarely maintain that for more than a few months...numbers numbers numbers....

Anyway, I plowed through DANDR and the jump start supplement book, as recommended by many on the site (you guys should get a commission from the Good Doctor for all the books you sell) but I still have a few questions. 1) I'm not much of an internet chatter, as my computer is slow and I'm busy w/baby, so, is there any way of finding local support groups, or locating other people "doing Atkins" in my area? I've been going to Gold's Gym (because Curves has no child care) and could use a workout partner... the place is rather intimidating. I have to swallow my pride and force myself to go EVERY time.

Do pickles have carbs? Should I count them like cucumbers?

Is it possible to drink too much water? I am currently drinking at least 2x the recommended 64oz per day.

Also, yesterday, I binged on legal foods after an argument w/my husband - scarfing down shrimp, fish, and pork like it was chocolate cake. THAT felt weird. Anyone else ever find themselves doing this?

This has gotten long, so I guess that is it. Glad to see so much support here on the web.

    Hi, Mush! Welcome aboard!

    1. There won't be any local Atkins groups but if you're looking for a local weight-loss group you can physically visit you might want to try www.TOPS.org and visit any oif the myriad local chapters. It embraces people from all weight loss genres (although I always call the area captain first and ask if they allow people doing Atkins in). They are a low-cal, low-fat group, so you have to ignore much of what is said as regards ways of eating. Whoi knoes? You might just educate some people, too.

    2. Pickles you should watch due to salt and processing, but I'd say you could have pickles within reason. Check the label for carb counts.

    3. You are drinking a fine amount of water.

    4. Ah! An emotional eater! Many of us are. That means you are not borg, but are human. I highly recommend you find Dr Phil's Ultimate Weight Control book and read it. It will help undo the years of negative self-training and emotional cues we've given ourselves, and helps us also fight the self-sabotage we've used for so many years. Food should be fuel, and not a drug to medicate feelings.

I'm glad you're here. It is nice to meet you! Welcome aboard!

      Welcome, glad you found us.
Pickles are fine, well the dills anyway.
I think your drinking to much water, we recommend 8-8oz plus another 8 oz for every 25 pounds you want to lose. (Cleo is going to hit me)
I understand your pain about being an emotional eater and I know exactly what your talking about. I do the same thing, stuffing food into my mouth just to be stuffing.
I go to the gym 3 times a week now and I am on a Marine Corp base and so I understand what your saying. BUT, you know most folks don't care, its us who care, and I'll be you a dollar to a donut that there is someone who goes there who is bigger than you are.

Welcome to ! I read about your water intake and I have to say that everyone on here tells me you can't drink too much of the liquid gold. I drank 208 oz. today and I feel fine. However, as with all things, different people have different opinions.

          Welcome to the group!
