I'm glad Tom has got this board running again.
It was of enormous value to me when I was 45 and told by a senior medical officer to lose weight "or else". Do Atkins he said - it works. So I did and it did work. My weight dropped dramatically along with my blood pressure and Cholesterol levels. I did Atkins by the book and became a moderator on this board. The senior medical officer told me I had probably saved myself from Type 2 Diabetes.
At 45 I was back to the weight I was at 25 and kept it there for many years; but as I aged it inevitably crept up.
I am now nearly 77. I was 6 ft 3 in but a bit less now. I have recently lost 9 kg (20lb). I now weigh 99 kg (218 lb) my target is to get back to the 92kg (200lb) I was at 25 and 47 when I had worked through Atkins. It is probably achievable.
I have a road bike (drop handlebars) and can still manage 30 miles a day - I regularly do. Losing the 9kg has made a big difference, but old age muscle loss (sarcopenia) is and will be an issue.
Because of my age I have been more gentle with myself. A few more carbs, more protein and less fat than the Atkins ideal, but it is still working. A full on ketonic diet at my age may not be wise.
So there is my current story. What is yours? Are you a returner or a newbie? Let's hear from you.
