Hello all! My name is Shelly. I am just recently starting my Atkins program. I have been in the induction phase for 1 week and starting my 2nd week. I have only lost 5 lbs, I know that is good, but I guess I was looking for more. Hopefully this week will show some loss as well to keep me motivated. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am planning to continue the induction phase until I am down 15 or 20lbs at least. My inital goal weight is 200, my ultimate goal weight is 160.

Re: Just Starting Out
Hi Mommyshelly... Welcome aboard!! It's important to remember that everyone is different... Different people lose weight at different levels... I'm one of the lucky people that shift it REALLY quickly...
Just stick at it... you'll reach your goal! Keep drinking water... LOADS of it
And read some of the success stories on here... if they don't keep you motivated... i'll eat my low-carb hat!

Re: Just Starting Out
Hi Shelly! Do you have a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? If you don't, I suggest that you run out immediately and pick it up! Chapter 11 will give you a detailed description of the rules of induction.
#3 says that your main source of carbohydrates during induction should be coming from salad greens or other veggies. You can eat approx 3 cups (loosely packed) of salad or 2 cups of salad plus one cup of another veggie...
there's a list of acceptable veggies listed in the rules of induction...
this has helped me GREATLY. I don't think I've read a book so many times before... or referenced so many times before...
you can also go to www.fitday.com to keep track of your menu's... the website will let you keep track of all food that you eat - and tell you which percentage of it is from fat, protien, carbohydrates and also alcohol. (another useful tool!) I've also used their food list to tell me how much of a veggie I can have without going over my carb count for the day!
I know that you can do it! Once you re-train your brain (my brain is still in training... a work in progress) I'm sure that it will be much easier.
Please keep posting, we're so glad you found us!

Re: Just Starting Out
Hi Shelly...welcome to ADBB! Congrats on your weight loss so far. Don't worry...we all lose at different rates. I lost fairly slowly at the beginning, then the loss speeded up as I went along. It was never regular though. I reached goal though in about eight months. You will too if you stick to this way of eating!
If you have any doubts you can always post a sample menu and the experts are sure to give you their thoughts and help.
Happy losing!
