  • New to atkins, love hot food.

Hi there, i started the diet just recently and have pretty much discarded every atkins menu is disgust. I LOVE curry, i LOVE kebabs, and i love bacon sani's. So, what ive done is ive dropped the bacon sani's and lived off of curry's kebabs and ceasar salad's.

So far its actually working ok. Though what really pisses me off alot is more than 1 serving of caffeine my weight loss is out the window. 1 serving of 0 carb alcohol stops it aswell.

    This is my problem:

Im a student meaning i go out once a week at least, often to a huge rock concert. I eat low carb, and i could go quite happily not eating over 20 carbs forever if caffeine, alcohol and sweetners and nicotine didnt screw me up.

    My progress so far:

Ive been on atkins 1 month and lost 14 lb's. i guess this is <ok> but for a week now my weight has been flatlining (just wont budge atall) but ive had like 1 pint of guiness or 4 cigarettes every 3 days or so.
I dont want anyone else to know im on a diet so i just act normal with friends and just dont eat, rather than try to find something low carb.

    One interesting thing:

While trying to lose weight originally, i took calories into account along with cabrs, making sure i stuck to under 20 carbs, under 1500 cals, and i lost less weight in this time then the week after when i ate maybe 2500 cals and 20 carbs. It doesnt make any sense to me that these extra calories magically dissapear and make you lose MORE weight.

A good recipe i find for you hot food lovers:

    Thai chicken curry

    300 grams of chicken
    roughly 220ml of coconut milk
normal amount thai red curry paste for volume
    handful of coriander
    4 red fresh chilli's
    Other seasoning to taste

Beauty of this is the coconut milk = 5 carbs , the thai paste about 3 carbs, the chillis 3 carbs?

This is like 14 carbs total for an amazing really filling meal thats a treat for people like me. around this meal ( for lunch) id normally have a ceasar salad totally about 5 carbs. and for breakfast 2 scrambled eggs with chilli sauce. totals 20 carbs pretty much perfectly and meats all atkins requirements on the head of 10% carbs 25% protein 65% fat?

Cook the lot together for 15 mins

Forgot to mention im 5'7 and my weight is 225 lb's, target weight is 195 lb's

Welcome to ADBB and to Atkins. not sure where you got your Atkins menus from as Dr Atkins says in his book pick foods from the lists that you like so open your DANDR to chapter 11 and select your proteins fats and veggies for the lists. you do have DR ATKINS' NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 edition? if not get one ASAP and read it cover to cover and you willknow the answers to many frustrating aspects of weight loss..

yep that is a good recipe but not for induction. I love hot food as do several other folk around here and there are some great recipes in the foods chat section along with the data base if youuse the search feature. just remember like your posted recipe not all recipes are for induction.

you are not going to lose weight linearly. you will havce downs flats and even up days but the overall pattern wil be downward when doing Atkins correctly.

Since you don't want them to know you are on a diet why not tell them you are eating less processed foods for health reasons. Volunteer to be the Designated driver and you can skip the alcohol too.

SO what you doing for the exercise part of your Atkins?

Re: New to atkins, love hot food.

I have found recipe's i quite like i suppose, i have VERY strange sleeping patterns as i have to do alot of uni work and can only concentrate at night, mostly getting up around 9pm, 7pm if im going out, then go bed around 1 to 2 pm. My excercise cosists of usually 3 4 mile runs a week, as i have a park 500 yds away that has a 2.8 mile perimeter, i love to run that at about 4:30 am. Other than that my excercise is mostly just walking, i spend alot of time on the computer.

One thing i noticed, is that i am a student and the cost of food for atkins in general is really damned high. I could feed myself on high carb foods for about a 2 pounds a day, but low carb is usually more like 4 to 5 at least. (thats about 8 to 9 dollars) i live in oxford UK.

Re: New to atkins, love hot food.

        Hi, Ian,

Life as a college student is so much fun, but it is also a start of a new life. You are on your own now and are able to make your own choices (including food, not mom's menu anymore).

Concerts are great, college is great, but if you want to really enjoy your college experience to the fullest, feeling good and looking good go hand in hand.

You just have to decide which is more important...looking, feeling, and performing good or that food choice. It's up to you.
