  • Saving My Own Life

Well, friends and neighbors, I'm a newbie here. Let me tell you my story.

Two years ago, I was getting ready to retire from the Army, and at a comfortable and svelte 200 lbs.

Since then, I've been in an office job, working ungodly hours, and have managed to put on seventy pounds. My blood pressure has gone up, my arthritis flares every morning, and I have become the cliche military retiree.

Everyone with whom I've spoken who's done Atkins has nothing but good things to say, and seem uniformly to be success stories.

Is it this way? Is it that effective? And most importantly, will you help me get back down to my goal?

I hope to meet you all at one time or another here on the BBS. Thanks for your help in advance.

    CJ

      Re: Saving My Own Life

Hi there CJ. I'm a newbie here too, but was previously successful on this WOE. The only reason I gained the weight back is because I failed to stick to it after I lost the weight and went back to my old eating habits and failed to continue exercising. I'm back now though and on track, and so thankful I know about this board! There is so much support and good information from people who are at all the different stages of this WOE. You've come to the right place.

Good luck to you and I look forward to watching your progress!

          Re: Saving My Own Life

Thank you all for your quick responses.

I was looking at the recipe reviews, and I think some people are missing the point. Unless I am. Someone please clarify.

From The Book, I get recipes that have me eating reasonable portions five to six times a day. Not gorging on protein, but cutting carb intake. Everything else seems extremely healthy foods.

Yet, I see some people eating no breakfast but water and vitamins, and enormous amounts of food other than carb heavies. Am I missing the point? What I see in the newbie recipe threads just doesn't seem healthy to me, not in the book, and not a lifestyle that can be maintained.

Am I the one missing the point?

Hi CJ and welcome to !

No, you're not missing the point, aiming for 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs is the way to go during Induction (fitday.com)...and information in The Book is the way to go! And spreading your meals and carbs out throughout the day is really important!!

Take a look at this link to the 14 Day Induction thread...
