  • Hello Everyone!!

My name is Vanilla and I just want to start off by saying Thank you so much for creating this website. It is very informative, I have learned a lot about the Atkins diet. In 2001, after I gave birth to my son, I used the Atkins diet to lose all my baby fat. I lost 35 pounds, in 3 months. It was amazing! I ate a lot of boiled eggs and bacon. I also had a vegetable protein drink every morning to curve the sugar cravings. (works very well) Well, unfortunately, I've gained all the weight back and some. I am a very unhealthy 230 pounds. I cannot fit into anything in my closet and I am ashamed to go out in public. The good news is I am doing something about it. I started the induction phase on November 27, 2005 and I am past the harddest part, the sugar cravings! I am disappointed that I accidently ate a couple of those low carb Atkins bars. The wrapper said 2 net carbs and I thought I could eat it on the induction phase, nope! I learned my lesson and started the induction phase all over again today. My goal weight is 130. I want to lose 100 pounds in about a year. Hopefully.

    Re: Hello Everyone!!

welcome to ADBB. so your house of Atkins doesn't come crashing back down again please get the 2002 version of the book and follow the chapter 11 induction plan with those 3 cups of healthy low GI veggies for 14 days them move to OWL when you are ready according to chapter 13 and practice testing all those timbers( that wopuld be the foods in the rungs) for the framing of your house to make it strong and then with 5-10 pounds to go move to premaintnenance and put on that water tight roof. the easy part is moving in at goal and personelizing the place.

      Vanilla...

First of all WELCOME. So happy you've found this site. You are right, it is a wonderful site that has a vast amount of info and hundreds of people sharing the journey to get healthy.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend that you read Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution (DANDR) edition 2002. It is a guidebook for the Weight Loss plan that Dr. Atkins devised.

As you already found out, it is hard to stay with a routine of drinking protein drinks and surviving on eggs and bacon. If you do the plan the way the Dr. wrote it, then you will find that you have a variety of foods available to eat and never have to get bored eating the same things day in and day out. It is developed so that you can make it a life-style change, not a temperary way to lose weight off.

There is lots of support here in the ADBB, challenges for exercise, forums about health and fitness, chat, success stories...before/after photos, loser's lounge, recipes, and much more. Everyone here wants to see you succeed and will help you with any questions or concerns you have.

            Welcome

              Re: Hello Everyone!!

Thank you so much for the advice. I will go out today and buy that book. I am trying to walk everyday, usually, 2 miles a day. The first week was hard, my legs hurt so bad! After that, my legs stopped hurting. It also jump started the diet! I am sooooo happy and I feel sooooo good! I have so much energy. My husband can tell a difference already. I am so excited!!!

Hello Vanilla!! A website that I have found EXTREMELY helpfull is fitday.com (www.fitday.com) you can keep a running tally of everything you eat. And if you don't find the food item listed, you can add it yourself...

This site is great because it helps me keep track of all my carbs, and where they are coming from... it also shows you the percentage of each thing you eat... fat, protien, carbs and alcohol... it's an awesome reference.

I hope you got the book!! We live by the book!! LOL

                          Re: Hello Everyone!!

Hey Vanilla (kewl name) Welcome to STAC. This place is a great place to hang out, learn, bounce ideas off of each other and just gain valuable support. No question is silly, and everyone here is on their second..third..tenth..whatever time around. The key for me with this WOE (way of eating) is that is HAS to be for life. Once all of the weight is off, I KNOW that I can't go back to my previously unhealthy way of eating. I liken it to that of a bad alcoholic who has been on the wagon for a year, he/she does so well, completes steps, succeeds then what? Starts drinking again after the demons were being beat out? Silly right? Yet that is what so many peeps do once they lose the weight. They fall back into old habits. It starts out innocent enough..."I've done so well, I meet my goal, I'm gonna treat myself" then before you know it, you are a week or two into stuffing your face with poison bad carby garbage. eeeeewwww. But now that you are here, you will learn how to avoid crashing and burning. And how to MAINTAIN the weight as well.

                          Big Hug
