  • So, Let's try this again

So, let's try this again. I wandered in at the end of November and many folks were especially helpful. Thanks 2Big and Cleo. Unfortunately, I made it about two days before I sabotaged myself and sucked down a coke--notice I said I did this to myself-no one put a gun to my head and threatened my life if I didn't drink the coke. So that being said, I chose to medicate the stress/aggravation/frustration of the day with sugar. How long does it take before the withdrawal from carbs subsides enough so that you don't feel like murdering anyone who walks past sucking down a coke?
I am starting again tomorrow. Truthfully didn't think I was this addicted or weak, but apparently I am.

Hi cascas72 and welcome back to and Atkins!!

Making that choice to medicate using food is the biggest hurdle, and so saying when those feelings won't pop into your head is hard to say...but a clean 14 Day Induction is the best way to squash the cravings!

Re: So, Let's try this again

Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.

As a current participant in the ADBB bootcamp I was recently advised to drop coffee as the caffeine is known to stall some people. This was not an easy feat since I have been drinking 2 cups a day for more than 18 yrs. now. So far I have been caffeine free now for 4 days now and I can tell you that it does get a little easier every day.

Maybe you could try repeating these daily affirmations to yourself whenever you feel like cheating, I know they have helped me get through these last few days!

My body will crave things I shouldn't have, especially when I am on a diet!
I have to work hard to get results!

I am responsible for gaining weight and losing weight. I'm in control!

Getting thin and healthy is more important than drinking insert your cheat food here!

      I won't sabotage myself!

I only hurt me when I cheat!

Insert your cheat food here DOES NOT call my name!!

I control the food. The food doesn't control me!

I WILL NOT let myself down!

Good luck! You ARE worth it!

Yes, cascas, I do know what you are feeling.

Sometimes, it seems so hard to avoid the self-sabotaging behavior that almost every one of us has felt from time to time. You have done the right thing though. You fell off. Ok, no problem. Get back on track and think about why you drank the coke. Was there nothing else available so you gave into the craving? If so, keep a bottle of H2O on you at all times.
I know it sounds rediculous but if you feel the need to medicate your stress, aggravation, etc., you might also want to consider walking around the block or some other form of exercise. If you don't want to do this, maybe going to a movie or just driving around a bit might curb your aggravation a bit. What I am getting at is basically analyze why you medicated with food and prepare an atkins acceptable behavior to use the next time this happens.
Good luck to you. Talk to you soon!

Re: So, Let's try this again

I think it took me about a month before I stopped wanting to beat up those around me, eating any and everything I wanted! Now I can honestly say that when I look at them now, instead of envy, I feel sad, especially if they are overweight, because I know the feeling of having no control over what I eat.

It does feel good, however, to actually BE the person that my co-workers look at in awe while they are all pigging out and I politely say, "No thank you" and then take a 45 minute walk at lunch time!

I must admit, also, that I haven't overcome the desire to beat up the people who eat all that garbage and are REMAIN SKINNY!

Hi, cascas! It's so good to have you back! I'm so sorry to hear you've been having some internal arguments regarding the soda. *l*

Give yourself 3 days to be past the cravings. I look at it like detoxing for drugs. Once your bloodstream is clean you are going to be feeling SO much better!

I'm going through MAJOR craving struggles right now. I'm not sure if having a diet coke or sugar free jello is considered 'caving' but they've been my life savors so far!!! My next step is eliminating them from my diet... I'm glad to hear you're going to get back on the program... let us know how you're doing!
