  • Hi!! My first post!!!

Hi Everyone! My name is Nicole and i am 21 and on my third day of induction. I was wondering if you all could help me with a few things. First of all....im not actually counting the grams of carbs( i will be starting that tomorrow however) but i KNOW im not eating over 20. I just recently moved from my home in new york to lancaster pennsylvania and had a death in the family so eating 3 square meals is hard for me to do since i usually dont wake up until around 10am . As soon as all the 21 years of unpacking and everything else is done i will be able to get up early and eat three meals a day. But i feel like i am gaining weight not trying to lose it. I am not used to eating SO MUCH meat and cheese. I mainly ate salad and chicken before atkins, but i feel like i am eating so much!! I also had been on hydroxycut before i started atkins and it shrank my stomach a little but i feel like a blob these last 3 days. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong or what else i can do to eat more veggies or not feel so fat?!? My major concern is that im not eating enough veggies and too much meat. Mainly the past few days i have had swiss cheese, salad, broccoli, salami, hamburger , and a few snack things like flaxseed wafers and mock cream cheese danish. my problem is i dont like a lot of the veggies that are listed. But i have stayed away from coffees, sodas, teas and salad dressings ( used red wine vinegar and oil) even though i can have some of them! Also i have not been able to exercise as much lately can anyone give me some hints on what i can at home to exercise? i had been doing pilates but i got bored with that!Thank you all for your help and i hope you all can be a great source of support for me?? Thanks a bunch!!

    Re: Hi!! My first post!!!

Welcome to ! First let me nicely ask if you've read the book Dr.Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition. It's the one we go by here so it will help us to know what you've read. And you don't have to eat tons of meat. They aren't common but we do have vegetarian Atkineers here. Also, here is a website that has lots of meatless dishes that are acceptable on Induction, just look for the * http://users3.ev1.net/%7Efontlady/ma...h_recipes.html

Also with veggies you might want think of a way to make them more tolerable. Ranch, cheese different seasonings and etc. You can have salad dressing just check the label for hidden sugars. A lot of us exercise at home with DVD's. There is an exercise forum here...browse around and see what catches your eye. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=14

The "blob" feeling is probably Induction Flu. Good news is that it doesn't last long! Hang in there and it's so nice to have you here!

      Re: Hi!! My first post!!!

HI Nicole! My name is Dianna - I'm doing Atkins for the second time around and you just wouldn't believe how much more I have learned about it this time around...

The last time, I thought that eating just meats and cheeses would be enough... I stayed on induction until I reached my goal weight and then, because I didn't read the book enough, I just went right back to my old way of life. Big Mistake!! I gained my weight back, plus an additional 20 lbs... so now I have nearly 50 lbs to lose!!

Bugaboo isn't kidding when she says that you should read the book. Dr.Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition is a BIG help. And a phrase that I've been hearing a lot lately is "Exercise, it's non-negotiable!" - it will help speed up your weight loss, for one thing and it will also keep you toned so that as you lose weight, you won't have that extra skin literally "hanging around" LOL (that sounded kinda gross!)

And drink lots and lots of water!!

You've come to the right place! There's an amazing group of people in here - many with a TON of knowledge and experience with this WOL (way of life). Check out the many forums and find one that you feel comfy in... and don't be afraid to ask people to critique your menu's either... there are a lot of people with different food preferences, they can offer you suggestions if you need them, you can find a WIDE variety out there!

Most of all, stick with it! Don't keep checking the scale, I've heard many many times that the scale LIES! Measure yourself (around your arms, you chest, your bust, your booty and around your thighs) and use THAT as your guide... exercise and drink plenty of water and sure the pounds will be coming off, but you'll notice inches coming off faster.

Good luck Nicole! You CAN do this!!

Hello and welcome! You've just broken a sacred tradition of not requiring expanding pants to accomodate all the crap people gorge themselves on this time of year! The January 1st carb hangover is the worst! But not for you! Come January 1st you'll already be in ketosis and feeling grand. Here's to you breaking tradition for a truly new life for yourself.

Thank you! i just hope i can really do it...i feel discouraged a little because i dont feel like i am losing weight and i have had so many un successfull diets i would really like this one to work but i know i just started so i shouldnt be so hard on myself. But one other question i did have was i used to be on weight watchers and when i didnt eat my full points i was told i had to eat more. Is it bad if i dont eat around 20 carbs a day??

                  Re: Hi!! My first post!!!

Hello Nicole and welcome. You've come to the right place for the answers to your questions. I'm sorry to hear about the death in your family.
There are some very Atkins-smart people here on the board who can help you with what you're eating.
I know that exercise can be boring and tiring after awhile, but it's an absolutely necessary part of the plan. There are many things you can do for the exercise. Even though it's cold outside, a nice brisk walk is always good. Take up something like tae-bo, or kick-boxing (there are hundreds of dvd's on these). Not only would you be exercising, you would be learning some self-defense methods at the same time.
Good luck and enjoy the holidays.

                      Get. Rid. Of. The. Scale.

The scale is not your friend. Your scale is one of those people who give back handed compliments. The tape measure is your friend. Also, you didn't put it on over night. Patience! It will pay off! This will make you lose weight. Look at some of the stats around here and they all belong to people who felt the same way. Once. But not anymore.

Once a month sounds good! I recently made a comparison of when one weighs everyday and one weighs only rarely. It's like having huge piles of laundry around your house, if you did one a day by the time you were done you'd be like, "Oh, it's done." If you left the house for an hour and came back and it was magically all gone you'd be jumping for joy in amazement. Take those measurements too! That's where you'll see a big pay off.

I am one person here who says that the scale IS a good thing, but not every day. I weighed in every Tuesday morning and also took my measurements then. I cataloged everything into my journal and found it to be a great routine to get into too.

There are times when the scale won't move but the inches will be falling off of you. This is a great rush when you see you have lost so inches since your last time.

Do what works for you but the scale, to me, is a guide that can assist you along the journey.

                              Good luck!
