  • New here, New Year!!!

    Hello Everyone,
I'm brand spanking new to this place, and am anxious to get started. I figured I'd better wait until Jan. 1st to get started with Induction, as there are just too many temptations over the Holidays to try to begin this now. So, I'll wake up on Sunday, January 1st with a new found hope of getting back to being healthy again. I've been reading some of the posts here and it sounds very encouraging!

    Happy New Year everyone!

    Rick
    Male, 51 years old
    Start Date 12/30/2005
    250/189/190
Original goal: Lose 30 lbs by Mar. 1st, 2006. I made it!!!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

      Welcome Rick.

More than curious - we are just plain nosey - how tall, how heavy, what hopes?

But tell us do, a more supportive group would be hard to find.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
      he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Welcome welcome! I can appreciate waiting until the New Year to start, but make sure you're not spending the last few days of 2005 bingeing on forbidden carbs--your glucose levels will go crazy and may make induction more painful than necessary.

Ok, Ok, you guys are intense!

I'm 6' 0" tall, weighed 249lbs this morning. My short term goal is to get to 220lbs, and long term is 180 or less.

Nope, I'm not planning on doing anything incredibly stupid over the holidays, but know that I'm going to a party with alcohol on New Years Eve, and if I started today that would just mess things up. So, on New Years Day it will be a new beginning for me.

Yes, I have my copy of DANDR and have read it cover to cover, and will be referring to it daily as I get started. I'm going food shopping this afternoon or tomorrow to stock up on the right things, and will clean my pantry of the things that I shouldn't be eating. My biggest worry is at work. We have a cafeteria where I eat lunch. Not all of the meals are Atkins friendly, but we do have a salad bar and I can use that as my crutch when needed.

Thanks for the welcome, and I'll be back.... often!

            Rick

I just wanted to say I am glad we have another male here. It gets a little thick with females occassionally. I think you'll be surprised how you are able to make meals Atkins friendly or accomodating even cafeteria staff can be to your requests. Getting a little more forward with your food requests is one of the first skills a new Atkineer learns. Stay true, and it will turn out good.

This is a great site and the easiest way to lose weight and keep it off you'll ever find, I reckon. For the work cafeteria, just have salad bar and some cold cuts of meat. Keep some leal snacks with you at work - it can be a few slices of cheese or some celery sticks. If there is no fridge, just take a cool bag with an ice brick.

                              Good luck!
