  • Atkins Newbie/4 Days in!

    Hello,

After trying 3 other diets/new way of life programs in the past year and a half I have finally decided to try Atkins. I know of 4 people who have lost over 80 pounds each and have heard of many more from friends and family. I'm currently waiting for my 2 Atkins books and 2 Atkins cookbooks to arrive (from ebay $11.00 for all 4) but in the meantime I am attempting to start with some knowledge from others.
I'm a 40 year old female, 6'2" and my current weight is 340 but no one believes me, they guess me to be only 70 pounds over weight. My ultimate final goal would be 190 but I would be very pleased to reach 280 in 6 months.
My first 4 days have been a little bumpy trying to figure out what I can and can't have with no book. I was happy to find the Introduction guide on this site to help me along until the books arrive which I hope will be any day.
I have not yet stepped on the scale, so I'm not sure how much I have lost if any. I want to step on the scale for the first time at the end of the 2 weeks.
After reading the guide I figured out I was probably consuming too much cheese and not enough veggies in my day. I wasn't sure which veggies I could eat but now I know. As for adjusting, I think I'm doing very well so far but worry about getting bored with meat since I'm normally a person who eats very little meat and fills up on everything else. This is a whole new experience for me but I'm willing to give it 110% to get results.

Well that's about all I have for now, I'm off to read more info.

      Welcome to this board!

You've entered just the place you need - you'll find lots of good advice and support. Since you've mentioned you know what to eat know - did you read the book? If not, please do so.

And read the stickies - there is a list of induction-allowed foods in the stickies in the induction forum. Lots of nice people and stuff to read over there, too.

If you are bored with your food choices, maybe you can post a menu in the review my menu section or check th erecipes and food ideas. There are so many things you can eat - sometimes we limit ourselves to the obvious stuff, but there's a whole new culinary world out there.

              Re: Atkins Newbie/4 Days in!

Welcome, and I second the suggestion to join the Centuery Club (those of us with 100+lbs to lose).
To get around the not being a big meat eater, I suggest stir fries. I often slice my steak or chicken up and stir fry it with the veggies. Tastes great! And when you scoop out the food you can put a couple of spoons of boiling water in the pan and reduce it to a nice sauce.
I've lost 50lbs (23 kgs) in 16 weeks - and 24 lbs of that (11kgs) was on Induction. Do measure yourself, you'll be surprised at teh changes in measurements even when experiencing little weight loss.
              Good luck!
