Re: My name is Matt and Im fat.

Welcome to the board Matt. It's always nice when another guy joins us (ok it's also nice with another lady joins us too) here. There are some pretty good differences between the two books, so make sure you reread the Induction chapter (at minimum) as the new one focuses on vegetables more. Wish you the best...

Hey Matt, Welcome to the board,

Can you eat Atkins when you are eating military food, or have you got to eat what they give you ?

Basically I ask, because once you drop the weight you'll be looking at some sort of maintenance.

Thats a great question! I do have a small selection of food when Im on the boat. I will be able to eat hamburgers and salads and once a week we have steak. Every morning there is an omlet bar and I can eat bacon. I will bring lots of packaged tuna and canned meat. I am going to have my girlfriend send me care packages too. Its going to be tough but I will do what I can.

[QUOTE=When I run I usually go between 1.5 miles and 2.5 miles which not to far. On the weekends I tend to relax a bit more. Too much exercise causes me to get straining headaches.[/QUOTE]

Welcome Matt! I love the title of your first post - made me chuckle. Aren't we all (fat).

I read an article recently in the health section of a newspaper that said these exertion headaches (occurring during /after aerobic exercise/weightlifting/ and sex, they said) are often caused by incorrect breathing - many folk tend to hold their breath (exspecially in weightlifting, apparently) rather than keeping it regular. Maybe you can use this info to see if you can improve the situation.

Perhaps walking with weights or on hilly ground to give it more oomph might be better than running, it's certainly easier to regulate your breathing when walking.

Good luck with Atkins, you'll be shrinking real soon!

Awesome! That should help you a lot!
It's gotta be hard to vary the diet on a boat! It's not like you can go to various grocery shops or anything!

                        Matt,
WELCOME. You're wise to get the weight under control now. You'll be able to do it by March. Just keep coming here for advice, support, and encouragement. Mostly, though, thank you so much for being in the Service. I come from a Navy family and understand/appreciate your sacrifice. I'm so grateful to all the brave men and women who are in the Armed Forces for our country.
