  • Round 2: I hope it's as good as Round 1

Hi everyone. Some of you might remember me from my last attempt at Atkins a year or two back (but probably not). My stay here was on and off during that time. I'm a 28 y/o male from Mississippi.

From 2003-2004 I went from 340lbs down to 235 at my lowest. I felt wonderful. I really started taking my weight and health seriously and it had become a sense of pride to work out 4 times a week and look good. I got big into lifting weights since early 2004 and I maintained my weight in the 235-245 range for well over a year.

Recently I've gotten out of the habit of working out and the affects crept up on me quicker than I expected since I was no longer following a low-carb diet. In the last 2 months since pretty much abandoning a regular exercise regimen I've gained some that hard earned weight that I lost before back.

I started Atkins again on Sunday, January 1. Weighing Saturday night I weighed 267.5 lbs. YUCK! I'm already seeing early progress. Just a little over 3 days in I weighed in at 261.5 this morning!

I'm a living example that Atkins works and I'm out to prove that it works in a second go round as well. I look forward to talking with you guys through this process and drawing my encouragement and support from ya'll. I'm setting my goals even higher this time as I hope to be in the 215-225 range by mid April. Feel free to drop me a PM anytime!

Hey Parker, welcome back to Atkins!
I suppose this 'hiccup' has taught you some valuable lessons about maintenance.
I have a similar rebound - (from low fat Weight Watchers) and it really brought home the message that a diet must be for life (Way of Eating/life) and it must be sustainable for life!
          That's why Atkins Rules! (IMHO)

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. And you're right, Dave, I did learn a valuable lesson. Not only that I have to be on a maintenance plan diet for life, but that I have to always be aware of laziness creeping in and biting me in the butt if I allow it to happen.

I was able to maintain my weight for well over a year without even the faintest thought of counting carbs. When I stopped working out was when I saw a big change. Now I know, however, that the gain wouldn't have been as quick if I had continued following a good diet.

Great job on the first big loss - I have the utmost confidence you can do it again! Maybe you'll even keep newbies like me motivated too!

Welcome back Parker. Isn't it amazing how quickly the weight comes back on when we put down our swords while fighting the battle of the bulge?

Here's to picking the sword back up! : )

I think it is still an accomplishment that you lost the weight you have, but I understand how you would want to keep going. My mother lost close to 50 lbs the first go around and then relapsed after Mexico. Keep up the good work and you'll reach your new goal in no time!
