Like most here, i'm new to atkins. I havent started my induction yet trying to educate myself first and prepare myself mentally and physically for the weight loss process. I weigh around 180 and am hoping to drop down to a healthy weight of 135. I have been a vegetarian for about two years now but have slowly been weaning myself back onto meat to prepare for Atkins. I hope i can find it in myself to stick too this and lose the weight to be happier and healthy. Congratulations to all of you who have stuck to it and lost weight, and to the newcommers starting their journey, Good Luck!!

Re: Hello.
I have the atkins essentials book for now, i do plan to get the new diet revolution 2002 soon though. I'm planning to start my induction on monday. I have found this site to be overwhelmingly helpful, educational, and motivating. A big thank you to everyone who has helped make it an informative and genuinely caring site
. After reading alot of forums i have a few questions. Is it possible to overeat protein, in the book it says you dont need to limit yourself on meat/eggs(besides the exceptions) but each egg counts as 1 carb unit, do we need to count meat the same, or can we really eat as much as we would like? Also i'm afraid that i wont eat a balance of meat and fats, i can see myself eating more meats than the oils/fats suggested. I know the book suggests the essential fatty acids supplement but i have a very hard time swallowing pills(i have to take the flintstone chewable vitamins). If there are any tips of recipes to get a healthy dose of protien and fats please enlighten me. Thanks!

Re: Hello.
Hi,
During Induction, Dr Atkins doesn't make any limits other than the ratio of protein/fat/carbs which should be in the neighborhood of 65/35/5%.
But, when you over eat on protein (not sticking with the ratios) the body will convert excess protein into sugar to be stored as fat (quoting 2big
).
If you haven't already, setup a fitday.com account to track your food intake and you can see what your percentages are immediately and adjust your menu as necessary.
I really haven't had any problems getting the ratios to work out. I'll use olive oil or a pat of butter cook my chicken breast and vegies. With the cheese, cream, salad dressing, etc. you'll easily get the fat you need.
Since you don't have the book yet, I'll type out one of the Induction menus in the book, just so you can see what a day looks like:
Breakfast:
3 egg omelette with avocado (special category food) with Mozzarella cheese and tomato
Decaffinated coffee with cream
Lunch:
Beef round steak (8 oz)
Spinach and mixed leaf salad, with mushrooms, onions, celery, parmesan cheese
Dinner:
Broiled Salmon (9 oz)
Kale topped with garlic and lemon juice
Hope that helps a bit!
You might want to check out the 14 Day Induction forum, there's some great information in that forum.
Take care.Shelly
