  • New to ADBB, ANA since June 05

    Hi,

I'm 44 yo & 163 cm (5' 3") tall. I started ANA at the beginning of June 2005 and so far have lost 12 kgs (26 lbs).

I am a serial dieter, I can pretty much lose weight on any diet but need to learn how to keep it off. When I started ANA I was not really committed to this WOE but have moved from someone who needed to see significant weight loss each week into someone who really believes that this time I will not only lose the weight but I will be able to keep it off and I am no longer concerned with how long it takes me to lose the excess weight.

I actually think that I have quite a high CCLL as most of my problems on Atkins have stemmed from not eating enough carbs. When I stall, weight loss invariably resumes when I up my carbs by 5g a day.

I'm currently in OWL (35g to 40g carbs per day) and have 22 kgs (50 lbs) left to lose. What I do need is help on doing OWL properly. I've seen lots of references to the carb ladder but have difficulty extracting this from DANDR (I have the 1999 version). I hope this doesn't offend but in my personal opinion Dr A was a great doctor but a woeful writer.

I'm looking forward to the advice I can get here.

How did I find this site? Actually I did a Google search on 'Atkins' and after checking out a number of anti-Atkins sites found this one.

    Hi,

check the stickies in the OWL part of this forum. There is one about the OWL carb ladder, too.

You wrote that you are a serial dieter and need to learn how to keep it off. Well, you have to find a way of eating which suits you for the rest of your life. If you can accept Atkins as a way of life instead of the diet you are on the right path. There is no moment where you go 'off the diet' but you got to maintenance and stay there, or as one of the books of Dr.A put it, Atkins for Life.

Welcome to ADBB and happy low carbing

Welcome to ADBB checkout the OWL forum and you should have no trouble doing it right.

you need tthe 2002 book cause the OWL carbohydrate ladder was created in that book chapther 14.

Thanks for the comments and advice.

After posting here I did find the OWL topics and the carb ladder and definitely plan to look for the 2002 version of DANDR. Still a bit confused but I really hope that once I get the latest version and read more here that everything will become clearer to me.

I know I'm not doing OWL right so was quite excited when I found this site which is about doining ANA right.
