  • Waging the war against fat

Hi, I am just starting atkins. Today is day two. I wondered... does coffee really affect the atkins diet. I know he recommends that you be caffeine free, but my morning cup of java??

I have about 30 lbs to lose, and I really want to get there by summer. I live in the deep south and don't want another humiliating summer. I would love to get some support, and my family is all for it.

I guess I am just searching for a "You can do it" cheer, and a few buddies to walk this mile with me.

Hello and welcome! It's the caffeine, from what I understand, that can stop or slow weight loss. Someone else will be along to clear that up soon, I'm sure. Try decaf.

Oh, and yes, you CAN do it!

          Hi Hottie2b,

Like you i want to look decent in a bathing suit!! I'm going on a cruise in may and want to have good self confidence and look great to enjoy my trip. Unfortunately the coffee has to go, but just think of it as temporary. Just get rid of it for induction, then consider bringing it back. I know you can do it! I beleive in you! Good luck!!

Hello. Welcome to Atkins. Glad you are joining us. I was a total caffeine addict when I started. I completely quit drinking coffee. It was very hard, but I had made the committment to lose the weight and do whatever Dr. Atkins said to do. I'm now down 100 pounds and can tell you it is definitely worth no caffeine. I'd much rather be without coffee than with the 100 pounds.

Stick to it. It works and it is worth the effort!! Best wishes. Keep us posted!

Ok, I have a question about all of this. Just how much of an effect can caffeine have? I drink a lot of diet pop (yes, not good, I know). Should I switch to caffeine free pop? I also have more of an urge for coffee when I diet. Will I notice that big of a difference with de-caf? At this point I just cannot get myself to only drink water. Thanks!!

Deep South?? South Mississippi. About 80 Miles from the devastated coast line. Man, give up the coffee? Well, today is day 6? I have lost 5 lbs, and I have not given it up yet. No tellin' where I'd be if I'd have given it up already. I just don't know if I can!!!!
