But seriously tell us some more about yourself, what health issues have led you to this WOL ?

And your friend is right, I don't think I would have got this far without the special ingrediant of 'support' and it comes in the form of these forums.

              is great!

Well, I'm 28 and I'm a retired Marine. I was having weight problems even before I got out of the Corps, but now that I'm out I can't really rely on someone making me sweat until I make weight; I have to do it myself.

I'm 5'10" and I weighed in last Sunday at 264 pounds, which is the most I've ever been. I started atkins that day and I'm happy to say ithat here I am 4 days later, and 16 pounds lighter. If that's not motivation to continue I don't know what is!

                    Re: Hello

Congrats on the initial Weight Loss!

The greta thing about Atkins is that it's not just a diet, but it educates you on why you became overweight. This relates to excessive carb intake in our modern diet and the insulin roller-coaster.

In my opinion this is the truth of why people get overweight and there is no other way to address than through a diet of Low Carb in nature.

From my experience it's important to remember that you must be able to keep this up for the rest of your life, because going 'off' is not an option, if you want to be healthy.

I've found that as the weeks and months roll by, you because less 'addicted' to carbs, and that sticky to this way of life because easier to do.

Remember variety is the spice of life, and if you don't like that taste of something - don't eat it! Well that's my motto anyway!

Congrats again and we hope to see more of your success story as it unfolds!

                      Good Luck Paul,
Welcome to Atkins and ADBB!!! It looks like you're off to a great start. I'm sure the Marines instilled a great measure of discipline in you (I'm retired AF, we were less strict! hehe), and that will aid you so much.

                      You'll do great here. Welcome!

Original goal: Lose 30 lbs by Mar. 1st, 2006. I made it!!!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

Did you see the story about Fat Man Walking on the news. He is also a former Marine and hit the over 400 pound mark, so now he's walking across the US and has lost 90 pounds. Wow, Marines are awesome.
