  • Hello New

Hi - my name is Denise, live in Texas, not married and no kids. I just started Induction today. I lost about 35 pounds about two years ago, but have gained it plus more back. I've had two very hard years and lost my mom last July, which I still haven't gotten over and which is one reason I've eat constantly for the last 5 1/2 months and gained so much weight.

Anyway I hope to get back on track and hope I can fight this depression and lose some weight. It's an everyday battle. I will be grateful for any support.

    Thank you.

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

          Hi, sdw,
Atkins is not an easy life after the Texas diet as some changes are necessary. As a former Texan, I know what you are facing but we can still eat most of what we grew up with. I still eat jalapeno peppers, ribs, steak, scrambled eggs. Just had to let go of the potatoes, gravy, and biscuits. Miss them but not that much.

You can do it. See you around and look forward to your posts!

            Re: Hello New

Hi! I was very depressed before starting ATkins - mainly at my weight and unattractiveness. I felt like a freak. I had thoughts of surgery, and yes, doing away with myself too.
Atkins has really turned my life around. I had a stroke of luck and got a job (through a contact) after 15 months unemployed, started ATkins on the Saturday and my job on the Monday.
As you can see from my signature below, I have lost 24 kgs in the 17 weeks, am no longer depressed - I look and feel 100% better.
This way of eating seems to be good for depression - maybe it's the extra protein or the fat - I have read somewhere that our brains need some fat in the diet - whatever . . . you will soon be feeling lots better.
            Good luck!

              Re: Hello New

First let me say how sorry I am that you lost your mother. I know how tough that is. Food is comfort and thats all there is to it. Sooo now its time to remember some of the great times the to of you had and remember she is not gone as long as she is in your heart.
Atkins is a great diet, and since you have done it before you shouldn't have as much trouble. Living in Texas is great, as having a hugh steak on your plate is considered normal. Yeah, you'll have to give up the barbeque for awhile, (or make some low carb sauce) and the beans will have to go on hold, but steak and veggies is very filling.
Welcome and glad you found us.
