  • Hi "Guys", just getting started

    Hi,

I happened across this site as I looked for information on the Atkins and where to get started. I have started this diet before, and managed to stay on it for several months, six or seven, and it seems to work for me. First time around I lost about fourty pounds, and hope to surpass that this time. I weigh more now than I ever have, and am tired of being the "big guy". I started the induction phase yesterday, and have been drinking water like a fish. I have a small note pad I carry in my wallet as a log, keeping track of my carb and water intake. We have a gym at our apartment complex, and I have been in there working on the treadmill. My desire and wife along with the support of this board is going to be enough to keep me going! I owe it to myself!

Does anyone have a good guideline for how many calories I should be working off in the gym, and any routines the group may be using as exercise.

Thanks in advance, and looking forward to getting healthy with you!

    Hey Dustin,
Welcome to Atkins and ADBB!!! This is a great place, and a great WOL! You're definitely in for a lot of support here if you want it.

As for calories, I wouldn't worry about it to start with, just stick to the Induction menu and you'll be ok. Get the right ratios of fat/carbs/protien and I think you'll do great. If you don't know what those are, read around the board, and if you haven't already done so, get the book (DANDR, 2002) and read it.

Happy Lo-carbing. Get your exercise and drink your water. If you do that you'll be a success!

    Good luck!

Original goal: Lose 30 lbs by Mar. 1st, 2006. I made it!!!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

Hey there, you are only a year older.

I have found this program very easy to stick, especially for the long hall!

            You can do!

Welcome Dustin! Sounds like you have a good plan. You might want to open a Fitday account, if you haven't already. Go to Fitday.com. It's free. You can input your daily menus there and it will tell you how many calories & carbs you have as well as the ratios which should be 65% fat, 5% carbs and 30% protein. You can't always get these exact but Fitday will help you tweak things if your net carbs go over 20. Good luck. We're here for you if you have any questions.

                    Hey all,

Thanks for the great input and support. I know that this board will help me keep on track, and allow me to reach my goals. I am going on a short cruise with my wife and a friend of ours at the end of March, and I want to be looking good! Are there any challenges that you guys know of that are fairly new? I was checking last night and it seems most are well into the challenge.

                    Thanks again!

                      Ladyinred,

Thanks for the Fitday tip.... I created an account and entered all my data. I think I may find it easier keeping my journal the way I have been, but the rest of the information and calculations are great. It will be a great help to ma as I continue.

Thanks again, looking forward to chatting with you more.
