  • Atkins Newbie

Hello all. My name is John. For a long time I've been hearing about the Atkins Diet and I even bought the book (got a great deal at a book sale). After months (more like years) of swaying back and forth on whether to try it I finally decided to jump in to the Atkins Revolution. I've even convinced my brother to do it as well and we are using each other to push ourselves along. I fell upon this board by accident. But I must say that it is the best accident ever. The motivation/inspiration from this board is what finally made me realize that with the Atkins diet and the support of such a great community, it can be done. Im a carboholic and I tend to eat late so 1st thing I will do is break myself of the late eating habit along with tossing the soda pop out. I welcome any suggestions or tips that anyone may have that could help in this journey of changing my "way of life". I see that there seems to be events within this community that I would love to be a part of (such as Boot Camp). I will read through the boards more and try to get as much information as possible.

        Welcome John!

You picked a great place! I looked around the internet for Atkins bulletin boards, and looked at several of them before deciding that this was the best one. Here, everyone sticks to DANDR, "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution", and that's the best. A lot of the other boards tend to allow the cheat foods that we shouldn't really be using, at least to begin with.

I'd recommend surfing around this site, reading the stickys, posting a lot and asking questions. Everyone here is very friendly and willing to share their knowledge!

Again, welcome to Atkins and ADBB!!!!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

            welcome to ADBB
kicking your bad habits is a great way to start. I'm still a carboholic just a controlled carboholic now.

We have a new 6WEC starting sunday you can sign up for too to help motivate you witht hat mandatory exercise part of the plan. All exercise challenges are open enrollment so if you see one you want to join jump in post a hi I'm new and you are in.

late night eating can be helped by changing whatever triggered those habits. watching TV and eatting take up a new hobby ofr comercial time like exercise. drinking water and delaying the eating can cause you to forget all about it as you will soon be running to the bathroom.
            Happy low carbing.

              John,

Welcome to the board. I've tried many diets, and being a carbaholic like you, I failed or had limited, hard-earned success. Atkins works if you commit and follow the book. Congratulations on tossing sodas. I never knew diet coke could stall my weightloss due to the aspartame.

If you have any questions or want a menu reviewed, just post away. This is a great board. Good luck, you will do great.

                Welcom aboard John!!!
Happy to hear your resolution in kicking the bad habit away (great start)! Having your brother on your side is absolutely awesome, suggest him to join the board too and you two will have much more buddy friends to share this experience with. I can see you've already had a attentive look at ADBB and notice the great support and help involved here. Much more than a community this is about real teamwork, we work together to succeed, to achieve the same success. Everybody is different but we are all following the same direction and aiming to the same goal. Applying for BootCamp, (I am on it right now) is the best move you can make to start with a clean strict induction, and give yourself the right foundation to build your way up in this nutritional approach! Start reading the stickies at the top of the forums to get inspiration and useful tips, and feel yourself free to ask anything, express any doubt, cry for help or just share your step by step adventure on Atkins, at ADBB you will always have other on your side and you'll never feel alone in fighting this battle and get healthier!
                Happy lowcarbing!

Welcome to ADBB and Atkins John!

This is a great place for support, many forums filled with stickies and FAQ's that really supplement and confirm DANDR!

My advise...read, read, read, excercise (something), follow Induction and the Ongoing Weight Loss Rungs exactly...no excuses. You do that and you'll be an Atkins success!

                  See you around the board!
