Re: Im New-need Encourgement And A Buddy

Hi qatil. I'm so glad you decided to post and let us know you're here. First off, just a few pointers to make life a little easier, because they are important things if you want this to work. If you learn, read and do, it WILL work.

Do you have your 2002 copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? Read it, read it and then read it again.

Drink a LOT of water, in general a good rule of thumb is 68oz plus 8 more oz for every 20-25 pounds you want to lose. It's not the only way to figure it out, but it's a start to give you an idea.

Have you prepared your kitchen and fridge with lots of induction friendly foods?

Try to plan at least 1-2 days ahead for food and don't forget your 3 cups of veggies, those are so important.

Exercise - It's not optional. Even if all you can do is get up and walk in your house for a while (depending on how mobile you are to begin with), plan some form of exercise from day one.

Most of all.. this place is full of wonderful people and threads full of information, inspiration, and help when you're down. Start a journal in the journal chats thread to keep track of the way you feel and anything else you want to put in there, people will post in there and try to help you and keep you encouraged.

Good luck, and once again, Welcome to the best darn low carb place in the world, where all threads you read are carb free! Feel free to PM if you need help finding anything.

Welcome to a really great WOE. You will have challenges along the way but if you can stick with it I know you can lose weight and get healthier on the Atkins plan. I find what keeps me on track is planning ahead and always having acceptable food on hand so that I am not tempted. You can do it if you stay focused. Again welcome.

Because i have not yet fully read the atkins acceptable food list, i need to ask this. Can i drink tea without milk but one spoon honey and lemon with splenda in it?

Here is a link to a wallet sized list of induction foods. Anything not on here is a no no for the first two weeks. When you get your book today you will have a better idea. No honey, that's full of sugar. Tea - decaf is recommended in case caffeine gives you problems with stalling. Splenda packet costs 1 carb per pack for your daily use and no more than 3 packets a day. I would say no on the lemon, it's a fruit and fruit gets added back on a rung in the Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL phase).

                    Hello there!

I just joined but have been doing atkins for one month. This is the second time I have done it. My experience is the frist three days are the hardest. you are so used to eating something that you don't even think about it. After the frist three days I don't even crave carbs. I wake up and look forward to my eggs and bacon, my tuna fish lunch, etc.

the biggest problem for me is when my kids get cookies from someone or there is a pizza flyer in the mail. Sounds ridiculous but it soon passes. This is one of the easiest diets because you can't cheat. That is probably the best part for me.
                    Good luck

Congrats on your month too atlasmom! I love the appetite control that eventually comes on induction. It's a saving grace. I totally agree about the cookies... though MY biggest thing is when my daughter or my husband start baking something and the house is full of that SMELL. Be strong! And thank heavens it does pass!

Re: Im New-need Encourgement And A Buddy

I too have always had a problem with losing weight. I became very sick between the ages of 10-12 and by the time I was 13, having been homeschooled and not leaving the house much, I weighed 285 lbs! All the women on my mothers side of the family are obese and short, I thank my lucky stars I got only half of that curse! I first did the Atkins Diet just like all the the others, when it got big and popular. It was the best thing I ever did and produced the best results. Falling off the wagon when you become content with what you've lost is the worst thing you can do I have found. I gained back a good 30 lbs over 1 years time! So now I feel like i'm back where I started. One thing to not skimp on is cardio time, my rule is that if you don't break a sweat then it isn't even worth it, but it's different for everyone. Kepp up the great work! I'll be coming back to check!
