  • Im trying again

Hello All my name is john and ive been off and on atkins within the last 2 years the first time i did it i lost 60lbs but have gained 42 of those lbs back I started again on monday jan 23 at 341lbs my goal is to break under 200. I have not been under 200 lbs since the seventh grade, Im 41 now. Is this a realistic goal or am I doomed to a entire life of obesity, self doubt low self esteem and depression .The first time I tried atkins I did not do any extra excercise besides my business which is lawn care. I have Huge problem when it comes to holidays too. I joined the Y last friday and have been there everyday since I lost 4 lbs the first couple of days but now am back where I started I did not take any measurements I will do that tomorrow , but it is still discouraging to be the same with the new exercise. I started out walking 1 mile and using the nautilus machines for about 15-20 minutes THe last two days ive increased the pace of my walking(I was being lapped by 70yr old men and women and was kind of embarrased)and increased the distance to 2 miles and a half hour of weights. Im a assuming that I have gained some muscle? the reason for the stalemate on the scale? I have a bad habit of weighing every morning. I need support . Ive seen some of the members before and after pics and I am amazed and hopeful to achieve the same results.

Hello and welcome, John. I think your goal is realistic. Make mini goals so it won't seem so overwhelming so that self doubt comes in. How about work on getting to 300 first? You're doing great by exercising. You are building muscle (which, of course, weighs more than fat). Follow induction by eating only those foods on the list and drink at the very least 64oz. of water per day. Get the book if you don't already have it. 2002 version.

You can do this, John! I know you can!

          Hi John,

It's not an impossible dream. As you are in lawn care, I reckon you are getting adequate exercise already - you would have a very active job!

It sounds like your weight issue comes not from a lack of exercise but from a carbohydrate metabolism disfunction. Focusing on sticking to the plan, enjoying some of your favourite low carb food would be my advice!

For example for dinner, I'm frying up fresh pork loin chops and having a salad of spinach leaves, sliced hydroponic tomatoe and some nice cucumber! That sounds good to me! That's the kind of food I can eat for the rest of my life!

There are many tales of people falling off the Atkins Wagon. even has a 'Second Time Around Club' STAC. This is because temptation can be great, and relapsing devastating.

Rebounding weight resonates a lot with me because I lost a lot of weight on WW, couldn't keep starving, and gained a lot plus more back It was absolutely devastating for me!

If this is to work for all of us, this must be a eating plan for life! You have probably heard that a million times, but it's such an important message!

          Good Luck!

              Re: Im trying again

I have noticed that i feel much better on a low carb diet. I thought i may have an allergy or something with carbs but your explanation makes more sense. Thanks for the info.
