Hello, I am very new to this site, so new I don't know exactly how to navigate it yet (would welcome any hints)! It took me two hours just to figure out how to post anything. Anyway, This is my second stab at Atkins. I am having a rought start. I have been on it three weeks and follow it religiously, but I am discouraged by only losing 10 pounds. I am 5'6" my sw 227, cw 217. I am desperate to get down to 160 by May. I was wondering if those bars and drinks with the net carbs vs real carbs slow down your loss and how much I should limit myself. I have only had one bar so far but I don't want to go there if I shouldn't. Thanks and see you around the board!

Welcome! If you don't have the book, please get it. There are lots of stickies around that you can read in the meantime that will give you plenty of information. Those drinks and bars are not a good idea on induction, in my opinion. I think they certainly do slow down weight loss. I know someone will come on with better info than me about that. 10 pounds is pretty good! Congrats on that!
As far as navigating around here, click on everything and see where it goes. That's what I do! lol

Im a bit discouraged too, Im about to end my first two weeks and Im only 6 pounds down. I read about all these ppl who lose 20 pounds in a month...we get so excited about these stories isnt it?
I dont know about the bars or drinks because I just dont use them.
My suggestion if you want to be 160 til May, is to work out more. Dont eat less, spend more.

Are you still having problems navigating the site? If you click the line of links right under the Atkins Diet Bulletin Board at the top of the page, that moves you back to the main page (Atkins Diet Bullet Board) where you can scroll down and look at the other available forums. Just keep practicing, you'll figure it out, and if not, just ask questions.
Don't compare yourself and weight loss to anyone else, your body is different that everyone else. And losing about 3.5 pounds a week is excellent! You should be proud of yourself...and don't you feel better, control, less bloat?
About the shakes and bars...well, I personally don't use them, the idea of the plan to eat good whole foods and to rid youself of that nasty 'sweet' tooth and remove the processed junk food from our diets, basically learn a new way of eating. Oh, and for many people those bars and shakes can stall or slow weight loss.

welcome! i'm on extended induction - have been doing atkins for 18 days. i'm terrified of the sugar alcohols, etc. that are in the bars and have vowed not to touch 'em. i did, however, have my first shake last night. it was alarmingly good. while it didn't trigger cravings, i'm definitely of the opinion that i should only use them as an occasional treat or perhaps as a meal replacement or snack on long car rides.

Angi, I only tried one of each, so cutting back won't be a problem! I am wondering if it really is possible to eat too little on Atkins, I tend to eat what I am suppose to eat on Atkins, but very little of it. I wonder if that affects the stalling or losing?

Post a couple of days worth of menus, including measurements (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) and post them in the Review My Menu forum. You'll get information you need.

Yes I had been on the induction for 3 weeks. This morning I had a two egg omlet with 1/8th cup of spinich and 1 ounce of cream cheese, with water. No lunch and I had dozen shrimp (thawed from frozen) for dinner. That's it for today.

Your menu should have at least 2cups of salad and 1 cup other acceptable veggie spread through out the day. For instance you could have had a chicken breast salad for lunch and some more spinach with dinner and that would have been good.
