  • Wanted to introduce myself

Hi. My name is Lori Ann. I am a mother of twin three year old girls. Before being pregnant, I was at the very highest weight for my range. I feel about 15 lbs above what I where I wanted to be. After pregnancy, I have been unable to lose the extra pregnancy weight until now.

I am finishing up my 12th day in Induction. I am just a little over 5' 2" and started at 152.8 lbs. (On 12/26/05 I was 156.8 and started dieting WW style. It was not going well, and I decided to research Atkins).
My overall goal is 115 which is about mid range to what all the charts say I should be.
I lost 6.4 lbs in the first week and not much so far this week (about a half of a pound as of yesterday morning). I wish I would have found this site sooner, I would NEVER have stepped on the scale until day 14. However, I added cheese this second week and think it might have helped stall my weight loss, so I am eliminating again for a while.
I have been doing my best to walk on the treadmil four days a week (M,T, H, F) for 30 minutes.

I have a couple of questions:
The book I have (my mom gave me) is pre the 2002 release (1997), is there a huge difference between the two? It seems some of the items listed here are in a lot more detail than the book. Such as in the release I read, it does not really state to limit cheese, it has it as a free food (however, it says to check the carb count).
Also, is mustard allowed? I know in the book Mayonaise is listed in some of the recipes allowed during induction, but that is the only one I saw. Mustard is 0 carbs, but has dextrose.
Another question: in one of the posts, it says in order to determine as to whether or not you want to stay in induction you should answer four questions. I do not seem to have those four questions in my book.
One more question and I will quit (for now). My husband decided on my day 7, to take this road also. He has about the same amount of weight to lose. He is having a lot harder time living without the old food than I am. One of his favorite is grapefruit. Can you sucessfully add a grapefruit into the diet after the 14 days, say instead of the vegetables? Or maybe 1/2 grapefruit (13 carbs) with half the vegetables?
    Thanks for everything.

    Re: Wanted to introduce myself

I personally do induction till I lose about half of my goal weight bc I tend to stall at some point. Also, cheese is limited to about 3 ounces a day. Grapefruit I don't know but I think it is not allowed on induction. You might want to check on the fruit. I think you can have some berries later on. Make sure you drink plenty of water all day.

Check out some of the other brands, mustard is allowed on induction and there are yellow mustards (I'm assuming that's the type of mustard you're talking about) that don't contain added sugars.

No, sorry...but to follow the plan, he would be allowed to add grapefruit until later. Here's a link for you showing the rungs of OWL:

        Re: Wanted to introduce myself

Thanks for the responses/welcome. I am going out today and hopefully will be able to find the 2002 ed. at one of the two books stores I will be near. It sounds like it defines the rules better. Today is my 14th day, but I think I will stick with this level for a while.
        Thanks again.

If your husband follows this road correctly, he won't crave the grapefruit by the end of the initial induction stage.

But I'd say stick with Induction longer because of the amount of weight you both have to lose. I had 50lbs to lose in total, and I've lost 28 so far. I've stuck with induction for the whole time. I intended to stay with it until I only have 10-15 lbs left to lose, but I've been on induction for 4 months and I'd stalled for 2 months, so I then decided to move on.

You'll find the key to your own bodies and metabolism though. Because everyone's different. You can stay on induction for up to 6 months, but make sure you lose the last 10-15lbs while on OWL so that you can prepare for maintenance. You may want to move onto OWL after only a few weeks. It's all up to how your bodies respond to this WOE.
