  • So sick of steak!

Hi everyone. My name is Dawn, and I live in a small town, just north of Boston. Two children, ages 11 and 12. When I married 17 years ago, I was a skinny little thaaaang! Well, I have had a blast putting on an additional 85 lbs. to my 5' x 5" frame.

I have been following Atkins for about 3 weeks now and have lost 14 lbs. I love the fact that I do not crave foods in between meals, and that generally I feel satisfied after each meal. I have to learn how to mix this way of eating up a little. I'm so sick of steak, I could scream (never thought I'd say I was sick of Filet Mignon)! I miss my wine on the weekends! Tried to have a few glasses last weekend, but it didn't agree with me Sunday morning. Nothing in the stomach to absorb the wine! Anyway, that's my sob story. I don't mean to sound like a downer...I am really glad that I am on the Atkins plan. For right now, it seems to be working. I think I'll visit here more often. Everyone seems so nice! Good luck to you all!

Welcome to the board. Good work on losing 14 pounds in 3 weeks. Try adding in some pork and chicken to keep things mixed up. I never thought I would get tired of steak either, but it happens after a while.

    Keep up the good work.

Welcome DR! There's so much you can eat, why would you limit yourself till you get sick of something? Have you looked in the recipes section? There are so many wonderful things you can have. I can't imagine getting tired of steak, but I can't afford to eat it more than a couple of times a month so maybe that's why. Ummmm, you know you aren't supposed to have any alcohol till you get to a higher rung of OWL, right? Hang in there, you're doing great!

        Re: So sick of steak!

Congratulations you are doing fantastic. Glad to see you join us. Please check out the recipe section. I hardly ever eat steak unless I go out ...(which isn't very often).

I eat a lot of veggies, tuna, fish, chicken and occassionally pork. I make a lot of meals with eggs (casseroles, quiche, soups). I do put hamburger in my soups and I use that for meatballs - which I love.

Again, welcome to the ADBB and keep us posted on your progress.

Hey welcome Dawn and congrats on the 14 pound loss. Well if you are sick of steak.........don't eat it. There are soooooo many yummy things to eat even while on induction (not sure if you are on extended induction) so stay away from things that are boring you and try and get abit creative in the kitchen. Tons of recipes on this board and there are alot here to http://users3.ev1.net/%7Efontlady/recipes.html

My problem is I'm craving steak (mmmm T-bones make me drool thinking of them) I try to limit them to once a week on weekends as a treat. I'm trying to stay with leaner meats chicken, turkey and some fish......

So if you find yourself getting sick of something change it up......there is no reason to have the same menu day after day. Keep up the great job Dawn your doing FAB.! Yes....visit the boards and read read read there is so much great info. here and the people are so supportive! I'm from New england as well......mmmmm looking forward to summertime lobsters on the beach.

Dr17, try shrimp fried in like 2-3 tbl olive oil, sprinkle with garlic powder, then when they are ready take them out and I usually put them on a paper towel to soak up any oil, then I sprinkle parm. cheese on them! Yummy!!!

Chicken, salmon, lamb chop or fillets, ditto pork, venison, prawns (shrimp) - the list is pretty long! Improvise! I have chicken, labm and pork cut into thin strips in my stor fired veges. You can add a little legal soy sauce if you want to flavour it.
After cooking a meat diah, put a couple of tablespoons of hpot water in the pan, stir with a wooden spoon while it is bubbling, and when slightly reduced use as a 'gravy' over the dish. Very tasty.
Chicken pieces are gorgeous sprayed with olive oil, sprinked with herbs (rosemary, sage, oregano, marjoram are all nice) and baked in an ovenproof dish in the oven. Or you can wrap chicken, cheese (whateve allowed type is your favousite) and mushroom (or chilli, or peppers, whatever!) in ham/bacon, secure with toothpicks and bake in the oven. Seriously delicious with baked carrot, parsnip, onion or any vegetable you can have.
                IMPROVISE!

                    Re: So sick of steak!

Definitely mix it up with your meats and try eating some of the more exotic low-carb veggies if you haven't already (e.g. bok choy, jicama, celeriac, etc.), whatever exotic veggies are appropriate for your Atkins phase. I also swear by spring mix rather than iceberg salads. I find that if I'm sick of a particular kind of meat, varying my veggies seems to make all my meat taste a little better.

Also, DH and I are hardcore steak lovers (and I am the unofficial queen of marinades) but we only have steak once or twice a week just to keep it a "special" meal.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

I'm not sick of steak yet. And the diner I go to serves it with bok choy on the side. Hows that for luck. Man it could have been corn. I even have purchased those think breakfast steaks and I'm eating those for breakfast with 2 eggs. I hope and pray I never get sick of steak.
