  • Hello :)

Well here is my first post and I would like to thank everyone for stopping by and reading.....

I am picking up the book tonight or tomorrow on the way home so I will have some reading to do.

A little about myself ... I am 32 6'2" 260lbs down from 310lbs about 3 years ago. I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 1.5 years ago and my A1C on meds is 5.6 last I had about a month ago and has been that every time I go to the doctor.

The doctor says that for my hight I should be 187 on the heavy side and I honeslty think I would look like a stick figure ..... so I am shooting for 200lbs

With me and my fiance expecting a baby anytime now my activity is low to say the least but I try and go out and play basketball on the weekends.

    Re: Hello

Is this your first time on Atkins then? I hope you'll be pleasantly suprised how easy it is to lose weight, the cravings to overeat just disappear altogether. Congrats on your baby to be! I'm sure the little one will appreciate having a dad that can keep up with him or her

      Re: Hello

Thank you .... was wondering if I should read the book and then start or can I start while reading? I am a computer engineer so if it isnt tech manuals and things of that nature it is hard for me to stay focused on the reading. I figure if I start and read at the same time it will get me through the reading a bit easier ...

      Thanks,
      Robert

        Re: Hello

Hi, Robert, and welcome to ADBB. This is a great place for encouragement, information, and support.

Maybe you would like to visit the induction forum and print out a list of acceptable foods and get started right away, while reading the Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution Book induction section. The book is an easy read and is so full of good info.

ADBB also have a diabetic forum you may want to visit.

Look forward to seeing your posts on the board!

          Re: Hello

Hey Robert! Welcome to Atkins, it's really a great way of living! And, congrats three times over... first on the upcoming new arrival, and you did say "fiance"!!! And of course on the weight you've already taken off! I think you'll find Atkins an easy adjustment.

My advice would be to get a good idea of the foods that you're allowed, and quantities, and get started right away. There's a great post called "Stop the Sabotage" that jump started my entry to Atkins. It's a must read if you haven't already seen it. I would definitely get into the Induction Forum and read the threads there, and just go for it!! You can start the book by reading the section on Induction too. Do that first.

We have the same kind of job, and I know how sedentary that can be. I've found that I can make time after work to hit my treadmill for an hour that I'd be watching TV anyway, and it really has helped. And once you get started you'll be hooked!

Again, congratulations on everything, especially your choice of this Way of Life!!!

You'll do well, keep us posted!

Original goal: Lose 30 lbs by Mar. 1st, 2006. I made it!!!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

            Re: Hello

Welcome Robert! Don't delay, start right away! (Hey, I'm a poet - just kidding.)

Copy the Induction list and get started, though. The first time on Atkins is the easiest, Dr A even mentions this in his book. I have effortlessly lost weight, with my Induction amounts very high - 7 kg (15.5 lbs) first week and 4 kg (9lbs) second week. This was really motivcational and has kept me going.

I have been exeercising gently from the start and doing gym work since week 8. I now either work out at the gy or walk 6 days a week. What about a gentle walk in teh evening with your fiance? Even 20 mins is good for the weight loss project, and you can build it up after the baby is born by pushing the pram!

Good luck with the weight loss and, more imprtantly, the diabetes control.

              Re: Hello

Hi Robert, Just jump on in the water is fine. Literally, congratulations on the weight loss to date, congratulations on the coming bundle of joy, and congratulations to you and your fiance.

Atkins is not a hard way of life to follow. You just have to want it. I don't think you need to worry about looking like a stick figure at 6'2" I do believe that as you will be getting exercise you will look more like a lean, mean, baby-tickling machine. But that is just my 2 cents worth.

Grab a book, a bottle of water and start the journey to your new way of life
