I've been lurking around here for more than a month now, but figured it's time to speak up and say hello. But first I want to say THANK YOU to everyone here for helping me get started on the right foot.
A little background: I lost about 30 pounds two years ago, but then I stopped exercising and fell off the low-cal, low-fat wagon. I blamed it on my travel schedule for work, moving in with my boyfriend (and his 7-year-old-in-a-grown-man's-body eating habits -- wonder bread, mac and cheese, pizza). But I knew deep down that I just wasn't making smart choices.
After Christmas, my boyfriend said he was going to "do Atkins" for a month to take off the candy weight. I thought this WOE was "unhealthy," but he encouraged me to read the book. It made perfect sense -- plus I was willing to support anything that made him eat vegetables, even if only for a month!
So here I am a month later. I decided within the first week that I enjoy this WOE, I feel great, and I'm going to stick with it. I did a cheat-free induction and have started exercising again. I've lost eight pounds and my body fat is down 3 percentage points. (By the way, the boyfriend ate a bunch of frankenfood, managed to lose five pounds, and is now back to his old ways.)
Thanks again to all of you. Now that I'm doing this on my own I'll need your support more than ever! But I have no doubt I'll succeed, just as so many of you have.
