  • Giving Atkins a 2nd Try!

    Hey Everyone,

This is my 2nd attempt at Atkins but this time I have read the DANDR cover to cover and bought the Atkins Journal. I am really enjoying reading all the advice and "stickys" in each forum and the "Before & After" photos are really inspiring!

I am a 37 yr old male, 6'3", 320 lbs. My goal weight is 220 lbs.

I believe this is my highest weight. I was 300 lbs in 1985 and dropped down to 220 in 1986 and then even further to 187 in 1988. I stayed around 200 until 1996 and then slowly started adding about 10 lbs a year until now.

My weight is impacting my quality of life. I am not doing things that I would normally do if I were at a normal weight. I won't go to plays or concerts if I have to wear "dress clothes" as they are too tight and uncomfortable. I recently had to ask for a seat belt extender on a flight and I have to fly every month. I don't like to be photographed (although I have taken a "before" photo to post sometime soon) and am starting to feel like I want to hide from the world.

I love carbs but hate the way I feel after I eat them. I was raised on Mexican and Italian food. I know I eat them for comfort and am willing to work on that. I feel like carbs are to me what alcohol is to an alcoholic. I am at the point to where I've had enough and am ready to make a change.

I am in day #3 of induction and am in ketosis!

I am looking forward to getting to know you guys and hope I can also contribute to the group as a "newbie".

Hi Kirk and welcome to ADBB and back to Atkins!

Good for you on the reading! You might be interested in the Second Time Around Club! And take a look at the recipes forum, there are some great recipes there that can take the place of the usual Mexican and Italian dishes!

    See you around the board!

You've come to the right place - lots of support here. For many of us, it is those before shots that motivate. It took me 15 months from when my awful one was taken, but finally I'm not hiding anymore. I still have a way to go but thei WOE has given me the confidence that I CAN do it.
Good luck and post that picture soon - no one here will poke fun of you, we've all been there.

Hi Kirk and welcome. I know exactly how you feel! I've been the same way, not doing fun things because of my size and missing out on a lot of fun. You might also want to wander on down to the Century Club to join those of us who need to lose 100 pounds or more. You can pick up your first blinkie there.

You're off to a great start...reading DANDR and being in ketosis. Keep us posted on how you're doing.
