  • New To Atkins!

Hello!! I am new to Atkins, but love this forum already!! I just a few questions. I am on day #3 of Atkins, and was wondering if the Atkins bars are allowed during induction. I have not read the book yet, but ordered it off Ebay and am waiting for it to arrive. I have stayed at 20 carbs and have not cheated (pretty good for me). Anyone have any induction tips??
What would we do without it?

      Re: New To Atkins!

First of all, welcome to the board. Atkins works if done correctly. A clean induction is essential for a successful program. That being said, what we call 'frankenfood' is generally avoided. Bars, shakes, etc... are not real food but refined junk. Stick with real food - meat, eggs, veggies, and water. You will do much better, cravings will go away faster and stay away, and you will feel better.

      Tips - let's see

check out the stickies in the induction forum for acceptable foods
you may want to get a www.fitday.com account to enter your food in so you can keep track of carbs.

Stay below 20 gr of carbs during induction
Spread your carbs out over the entire day
It's 3 cups of salad greens or 2 cups of greens and 1 cup of veggies off the list

Drink your water - 64 oz plus 8 oz for each 20 pounds you are over your goal. I drink around 100 oz per day throughout the day

Atkins is a high fat way of eating - ideally you will eat a ratio of 65/30/5 fat/protein/carbs. Don't worry if you aren't exactly there, but close is good

Induction flu happens to many - 2-3 days of BLAH - water helps it pass quickly. It's a good sign that your body chemistry is changing

When you wake up one morning with really bad breath or a funky metallic taste in your mouth and you are thirsty and frequenting the bathroom every hour - you are in ketosis which is your #1 goal

Ask as many questions as you need - we are all here to help.

Don't beat yourself up if you slip - it happens to the best of us. Just get back on the wagon.

If you continue to do as you've always done, you will continue to get what you've always got.

Nope don't eat the bars they are EVIL I tried one about 4 months in cause I wasn';t prepared and Oh my gosh I was going to the bathroom every 3 minutes and my stomach hurt soooo bad. It's not worth it and the Sugar alcohols act just like sugar in a lot of People driving their Insulin levels up Knocking them out of Ketosis and making ya crave all over again. STAY awy.

Oh and Welcome to the Board sooo happy you are here.

                      Re: New To Atkins!

Do you eat at truck stops?? You could order plain burger pattie with Induction allowed veggies on the side. I ordered the book off Ebay, but I am sure that isn't an option for you, but please get the book and DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!!!! You CAN DO IT!!! This is a great place to find out what you need. I am on day #6 of induction and lost 5 pounds, and I ate a bar on my first day because I didnt' know either (thank God for ADBB) so don't worry about it. I am sure a bar is better than giving in and eating all the carb foods!
Please try to get your hubby to understand that you won't lost tons of weight every week, and maybe he has lost inches that aren't showing on the scales? Did you guys take your measurements? It took a while to put that weight on, it will take a while to get it off. Rome wasn't built in a day!! If you stick with it, you won't regret it I PROMISE!!!! Maybe investing in a big cooler where you could store some veggies and string cheese and other Atkins friendly snacks there don't have to be cooked? I wish I had more suggestions, but.......
Take care, be safe, and GOOD LUCK!!!!!

P.S. Remember we are always here for you!!!!

                        welcome sunflower!
Hi sherry! on the road eating is tough, but not impossible! You can pick up the precooked bacon strips, some beef jerky (without the sugar), canned chicken, tuna, beans. Cheese might keep awhile if you have a little cooler for it. How bout raw broccoli with some ranch? I commend both you trying to do this on the road! And when you do get an opportunity to stop, like sunflower said, take advantage of your fresh meats and veggies!
