hi everyone, just wanted to say hi and that this is a great site.been on atkins 3weeks and have stopped losing weight.lost 8 lbs first 2 weeks on semi with husband (he drives a semi truck) and i ate the bars as well as salads and protein when i could. kinda hard to cook with no kitchen and no stove!! we are getting discouraged though because we don't know which way to go, he has said today he will stop if his weight does not soon drop. we don't get alot of exercise when he is on the truck due to delivery deadlines. thanks, and god bless

Dont give up, most of us stopp losing weight for a bit after the two first weeks.I had to learn how to live with it, it is hard I know. we all want to see results.

Even if you cant cook you can take some salad with tuna or chicken no?
I have the bars just in case of a major emergency...(my tummy complains alot about them too...)
Allt the luck for you and your hubby, and dont forget the water.

You should pack a cooler for the trip. hard boiled eggs, celery sticks with cream cheese, lots of water, more water, maybe a second cooler with water, your salad dressing, cheeses, ham though make sure read lots of processed hams have lots of carbs, and anything else for snacking, you should be able to do it even if you have to eat on the road it will just take a little extra effort. Tell your husband not to get discouraged. What I eat out chicken breast salad, Wendy's has a great selection, bunless sandwhiches if I eat the veggies I count them, becareful no ketchup, and mo mayo bring your own they add suger in the retuarants, With a little planning is must and you need lots and lots of water somthing I am sure you are not getting enough of since I have a good friend who is a truck driver.

Re: i'm new with lots of questions

Hi and welcome to ADBB and Atkins! And 8 pounds is awesome in 3 weeks, that's great!

You've gotten some great advise here, the link above, no "frankenfoods", the cooler with good whole foods and lot's of water = is the best! Maybe try getting in some walking when you have to stop for fuel or in the evenings...even a good walk!

This is a life style change not a quick fix diet...have you and DH read the book (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR))? If not, I strongly suggest you do.

The questions to ask yourself, are you losing inches, how do feel, better? Those are great reasons to continue on!

Hope to see you around the board!

A cooler is a must when you're on the road! As well as bottled water. I have a couple of bottles in the car all the time. Stay away from the "bars", they can hinder your weight loss. Try to stay with wholesome, natural foods. I am on the road quite abit, and always carry my laptop and some exercise DVD's, or when that is not possible, walking is always available. All this takes alot more planning, but will become second nature once it becomes a habit. Keep up the great work, 8 lbs is a great beginning!!!

Re: i'm new with lots of questions

at 3 weeks you are at the point in ANY weight loss pan where the body having undergone a massive change is adjusting biochemically to those changes and biophysically too. This is the point where many folk on any weight loss plan say " This plan has stopped working for me" and quits.
Stick with it cause even though you can't measure your success right now on the scales you are sheeding your fat mass if you are eating your atkins correctly drinking your water, taking your needed supplements and doing the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins. You will also be adding some muscle mass from the prtoeins and exercise and adding fluids from both the new to you exercise and the new to your body loss of fat cell shape. All those changes can at times counter the effect of each other when measured by the force of gravity on your total mass. BUT since the density of water and muscle is greater then fat you can see the inches of fat being shed by all your hare work. Make friends with your tape measure and watch those inches leaving even when the scales don't validate your hard work.

                Happy low carbing.

Re: i'm new with lots of questions

frankenfoods are those foods with the mythical noncounting counting things in them other then fiber. fiber by law has to go in your mouth and come out unmetabolized if those other things like hydrolized starches and sugar alcohols met that criteria they would be listed as fibers but they aren't so count them to stay out of trouble.

Happy low carbing enjoy your trip.

actaully the Atkins For Life Book has the DADNR induction in it just not as detailed as DANDR does but it has the other pahses in much greater detail. you should be fine with it

I was wondering what you normally do for food before you started low carb. Did you bring food with you, or did you eat out on these trips ? Do you have a good sized fridge or cooler and can you take a burner with you ?? If the food you take with you has to last 7 to ten days, I can see how it is a bit of a challenge. It can be done however. You can hardboil eggs and bring them, they stay good for a long time in a cooler or fridge. I know this because years ago, my mother in law would make a bunch of eggs to color for Easter and leave them OUT to eat until they were gone, at least a week, and they never went bad.I would not eat them, lol, but everyone else did and she did that for years. Now, that said, I would never recommend doing that, but I told you that to prove a point that they stay good a long time without being cold, so being cold they should for sure stay good !!! I just asked my husband and he said yeah, I was remembering it right, she did do that. So, if you hard boiled a few dozen eggs and kept them in the cooler, that should last you that long and take cheese and cook up some steak or chicken and you can eat that cold sliced up. Salads are good, they come made up in the bags , just bring some dressing. Tuna is easy if you have a place to drain it, or buy it in the bags. Lets face it, there are so many wonderful prepared foods now in the deli and even produce sections you can eat pretty good on the road. Some grocery stores have hard boiled eggs in thier deli refridgerated area, and lots of stores carry the cut up veggies or store made salads that have meat and cheese. Don't forget nuts too, they can be a nice addition on the road.
We drive from Dallas to Southern Calif at least one a year and I have done it low carb more than once. It is not too hard. You just have to plan well.
When you stop for gas, get out and walk around the truck if you have to, to get some excercise You can do some stuff in the truck, small arm and leg excercises too.
I know you and your hubby can do it, don't give up !!! Stephie
