  • New, although certainly not new to dieting

    Hello everyone,

Yesterday was day one on the Atkins plan for me, I tried it once before about five years ago and lost about 15lbs. So I thought I give it another try. Dieting has been a haunting word for me the past two years. I started out on WW lost about 30lbs and started gaining it back. I then had a go at a vlcd.. a very low calorie diet plan which worked lovely til I fell off the wagon the last 2 months I have been nothing but sick trying to pick it up again. Finally I decided I needed to find another way. That I was simply hungry all the time and frankly, I was growing tired of that feeling. To Date… 2 years ago I was 260lbs, I managed under 200 this summer as a constant weight and most recently down to 185lbs. My goal is about 145lbs. I am looking to take the next few weeks slow, and then build up exercise.

So here I am, day two. Yesterday I breezed through, was a little ill but nothing too bad. Didn’t cheat and drank a fair bit of water.

    [check] weighed myself : 185lbs / 13 stone 3lbs

[check] took pictures, you know even the ones in the bathing suit… they are a little frightening

[check] got rid of carb and sugary foods lurking about

I think I am set and ready to go. I have enjoyed the last few days reading through your boards. It’s been so very helpful. I do have a few questions though

    • Is mustard allowed?
    • Is hot sauce allowed?
    • Is there a thing as too many eggs in a day/week?
    • Anyone know if fish like swordfish/halibut is okay to have?
    • Does diet coke and other diet sodas effect loss?
    • Someone mentioned take it easy on the cheese, should I be?
    • What tips and advice do you have?
    • On average what is the weight loss like on the Atkins diet?

Thanks so much it was very nice to meet everyone. On a less dieting note: I am a 23 year old girl (24 in a month) who is originally from Philly, moved to London about 6 years ago.

You must read the book!!! You can order it on Ebay (I got mine for 5 dollars). The 2002 edition in the best!! You HAVE to drink your water, you must!!!! Every time your glass or water bottle is empty, fill it up and start again. You can only have 3-4 oz of cheese in induction, and you can have hot sauce or mustard if it has no sugar. You need to stay away from foods that have added sugar, read ALL labels. They have wonderful no-sugar bacon and sausage over here. I was surprised to see how many foods have sugar lurking in them. On the diet soda, you are supposed to stay away from it in induction. You can only have three serving of Splenda a day (do they have that there?). Try to stay away from the 'Atkins Products' also. I made that mistake my first day, before I came here I learned so very much!! Read all the stickys and get the book and you will be on the right path in this great WOL!!! Welcome and GOOD LUCK!!
What would we do without it?

    Mini-goal- 149 by June 1st. I can do it!!!

thanks I must have an outdated book, its the ATKINS, Robert C. - Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution. It told me I could have diet soda... will cut that out right now. Been watching my cheese aswell so good to go there. The only thing I am really worried about is that my birthcontrol has small amounts of sucrose and lactose in them, I cant swap them atm and hoping it doest effect atkins, I am going to get the strips this weekend and give it a go

thanks so much for the advice. Exercise is my weakness mainly because of the whole legcramping problem, I am going to use a special suppliment this time for that and try to get in a jog at the weekend
