    HI all,

My name is Shelley and I am 36yrs old, with 2 children, 5 and 8.I have lost and gained so many times it makes me so mad.I was on Bernstein and few yrs ago and went from 220lbs down to 163lbs and this is fully dressed (LOL).I am 5"8 so this weight was pretty good for me.I kept most of it off for 2yrs (yo yo 10lbs or so), until my husbands Crohns disease started flaring up, and I turned to food to deal with it.Of course thats not the answer, and I gained it all back.....all the way to 217.5lbs which is where my user name comes from.
I have been on this for almost 3 days now,and really hope I can stick to it (carb addiction), and get back down to 163lbs by the summer.Any support I can get is graciously accepted. Also any help on diet tips or just menus would be great.I will have lots of guestions, and I hope most can be answered.I am looking forward to becoming a regular on here and to meeting so new people who are struggling just like me.

Welcome Shelley. I did Bernstein too. It was brutal.

You've come to the right place. Stick around and you'll get a lot of support. What are you doing for exercise?

      Hi,
you came to the right place, there are suggestions for recipes in the food section. Maybe you can check some members fitday food diaries to see what we eat and have some ideas for your menus.

      what is Berstein btw??

It's a medically supervised weight loss program that is low carb, low cal and low fat...about 850 cals per day of tasteless food. You also get vitamin injections.

Bernstein is a 600 calorie a day diet. You aren't hungry because they inject you with a high dose of B vitamins. It is very good for getting rid of lots of money and weight quickly. It's the perfect way to lose weight for a very short amount of time, because you put it all back on again immediately. Ummm, not that I know from personal experience or anything. Atkins is cheaper and actually works.

Oh, I thought it was 800 calories at least. The "you aren't hungry" part isn't true 'cause I was hungry all the time.

            Yes, very expensive diet.

What? The two triscuits and tablespoon of low fat cream cheese didn't hold you til lunchtime? I don't remember if it was 600. It might have been 800. It was unreasonably low anyway. And yes, my feet were looking pretty tasty some days.

OMG! I hated it. And I was losing pretty good...about 2 to 3 lbs a week and they had to nerve to tell me that I wasn't losing fast enough (according to Dr. Bernstein whom I had never met) and that if that continued then I would have to re-initiate (meaning pay the initiation fee again). At that point I thought the whole thing was a load of crap so I quit.

They told me not to exercise. Why? Because they guarantee a 4 to 5 lb weight loss per week (that's why they said you were losing too slow - were you cheating and eating an extra stick of celery perhaps?) and if you are building muscle then you are going to throw their numbers off. Good plan eh?

                        Re: Canadian Newbie

Gosh, I thank you for all your responses. Well I am now down to 213.5lbs and I only started on Tuesday.I know thou that it wont continue at that fast pace cos it says in the book that its water weight.Oh well,I'll take it anyway.
I am in Burlington,Ontario area, about 25minutes on highway from Toronto. Its the burbs I guess.
Also I did Bernstein, and yes it was very fast at weight loss, but its almost impossible to uphold.I mean, the minute I starting eating normal again (and not high fat like before), I gained right away.I would gain 20lbs and than do it again. They did get alot of my money, but I looked great for those 2yrs and to me it was worth it.However.I love protein, especially extra old cheddar, and of course bacon......yummy.Tonight I made a great dinner.I precooked some plain chicken breasts (box said 1carb thou, but yet no sugar or breads on the ingredients....odd), and than added some chunky salsa, and some cheddar and sprinkled cooked bacon on top of the cheese. It turned out awesome.......I could have eaten 10 breasts. The kids loved it too.......which is good considering dinner is not there favorite meal.I also did some fresh green beans in butter and put them in the same dish to cook with the chicken, they too were awesome.I just need to find better ways to cook veggies.I eat salad, but it gets a bit tuff eating leafy greens everyday.I did hear that if you cook green beans in regular sour cream, salsa and parmesean cheese and add some thinly slices almonds and add cheddar on top and bake in the oven, its turns into a casserole. You can also add chicken, beef, pork or whatever.......simple yet yummy. If anyone has a great recipe for me for induction, that would be great too.I'm more limited than those doing continued weight loss.Anyway, thanks for all the responses and I look forward to loosing with you all.

Check out the recipe boards, I did and there are some great ideas there.

Not a lot of options for the induction phase are there? I'm in the same boat as you...
