  • Been on Atkins since Aug 2005 and...

and... I have lost 64 pounds so far! I weighed in at 269 this morning.

I finally made the commitment last August to do something for my health.

I am 6'4", and even it my height, 333 lbs was just very unhealthy. My blood pressure has been high for years, and I just started to realize the path I was heading down. (My blood pressure is now down to normal)

I guess I am not very much of a traditionalist with this diet. I have had to make the diet work for me. Here is my situation:

I started walking one mile a day on my treadmill 5 days a week. I have limited my carb intake to no more than about 25-30 grams per day. However, I still have a big appetite! I have just been filling up on foods that are 'legal'. I eat the majority of my meals on the go - fast foods, etc. I eat an awful lot of burgers without the bun. Every morning I eat at my local Sonic restaurant and basically get two breakfast burritos without the tortilla put in a box - basically egg, sausage, and cheese. I drink a ton of water and a ton of iced tea. (I know the caffeine isn't good though)... Lunch is usually a big salad from Wendy's or some place with Ranch dressing and the grilled chicken & also one or two hamburger patties...

Similar stuff for dinner. I snack like crazy on cheese. I have done really well with the diet, but I am at a crossroad where I have not been able to loose much more weight for the last month, despite daily exercise. I started walking about 1.25 miles a day while carrying weights in each hand and that really works up a sweat...

Any thoughts on what I can change? Really glad to find this forum - I need some support from others as nobody else around me is on the diet...

    Thanks,
    Brian G

    welcome to the adbb!

i would say perhaps watch your salt intake. i only say that because fast food usually is full of salt.
you do know that tea, decaf or otherwise, does not replece that water, right?
you may also have to cut back on the cheese!

my parting shot would be to head over to the forums that deal with owl and look through those threads for helpful hints.

Glad you joined our family... Always welcome another guy on board.

The first thing I would always look at with stalls would be your cheese intake. Dairy has a reputation of stalling a majority of Aktineers, so it just something to be aware of in your diet. I am not going to say start counting the Calories you are eating in a day, but you should always evaluate why you are eating what you are eating. Are you still hungry or are you eating just because you always used to eat that much? That is one of the things I struggled and still struggle with -- why not eat the 2x double cheeseburgers for lunch, I always used to eat them. The final thing is never be stagnant with your exercise. Even daily exercise can lead to plateaus despite the sweat.

I hope one of these suggestions rings true. Again welcome to the site.

        Kent,

Thank you for the reply! You are very close to my size and from your pictures it looks as though your build is similar as well. You obviously have had an amazing success - congrats. I am 35 years old and am 6'4" tall... You are correct about my eating habits. I just always used to eat such large quantities and so habits are hard to change. My heaviest was 333 lbs so it looks as though you were quite a bit heavier at your top end...

I am very curious if you could tell me what you eat on a typical day - just to give me an idea of volume and so forth...

        Thanks a million!
