  • Hello everybody!

So, this is how things are going. I have done the Atkins diet once before, when I was working at a pharmacy. I sat around all day at work, so when I did it, I really did it. Gym for about an hour a day, induction for 3 weeks, looking good, feeling good.

So anyway, my friend winds up getting hit by a truck, and he dies in the hospital. I went through a rough patch, and kinda clung onto my friends even more. Me and a few friends had planned a couple of events that year (he was one of the friends) and I knew that he would beat me up if I let his death stop me from going through with the plans, so I lived his life for the rest of the year.

Needless to say, I stopped doing Atkins for a while.

But, now that I've taken a good look at myself, I realize that I can't let anything hold me back from living my life. I mean, I miss him, but I can't be him forever. He'll never be replaced, but my life is important too.

I switched jobs to a more active environment. I'm working at a warehouse, to get my activity up. It's a minimum of 8 hours of constant walking, moderate to heavy lifting, and much better for me physically than an office job (no offence to you desk jockeys out there... LOL!) I guess it would be considered a substitution to exercise, since my body isn't used to it just yet.

I also wonder about the whole sweating thing. I know it's good to sweat, but are ketones expelled through sweat as well as the normal ways? Since I sweat so much during the day, I find that I don't have to go to the bathroom as often as when I first did Atkins.

In addition to that, I carry around an old 20oz coke bottle, that I use to carry my water in, because it's easily replaceable (get a friends discarded soda) and I can measure how much water I actually drink that day. Normally, I get in about 5-6 bottles.

Speaking of bottled water... I also noticed that sometimes, my water has a funky taste to it. Sure, the water starts off tasting great, but after a while, if I'm not chugging it, it'll take on a weird flavor. My assumption is that it's probably ketone breath, but I don't get ketone breath. Not any that I notice, at least.

Wow, I just meant to say hello, and that I will enjoy my time here. No need to answer my questions on this post. Just point me in the right direction, and I shall repost there.

    Re: Hello everybody!

Great post and welcome to ADBB> Glad you found us and joined. Also terribly sorry about your loss. It is so trajic to lose someone so young. It sounds like you have a good handle on how to do induction, and drinking water. Old water bottles might take on a taste of their own, so you might want to get a newer one and see if that helps.
Again glad you found us. Welcome.

Hi and welcome. I, too, am sorry for your loss. I can totally relate to the water taste thing. Sometimes my 'ketosis' breath, metallic feeling in my mouth is stronger then other times. My water starts tasting weird at those times.

                Welcome
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
                he said, 'Don't count calories.'
