    Re: Stalled Induction.

    good for you.

we have many topics about going to events and how to prepare but basically it is to either call ahead and scout out the foods and offer to bring something you know you can have to share with the rest of the guests or pack in a portable cooler your foods and thern much your foods during the event and celebrate the event like the pride in your family the love you felt for them and the honor of your parents and not the food.

others eat before they go so they aren't tempted either.

        Re: Stalled Induction.

I'm so proud of how you handled the ceremony. Special occasions are my absolute weakness, and when I have historically taken those evil "breaks" that cause me to spin out of control. You did FABULOUSLY. And how incredible that you weighed 1.5lbs less the next day, isn't it great to see willpower pay off like that?

I had some more thoughts on stalling, that I wrote in another thread but thought were appropriate here too:
My first advice is don't weigh more frequently than once a week. Trust that if you're following all the rules and eating only the acceptable foods that it WILL work and set a once per week weigh day to track your progress.

If you're working out, you're certainly gaining muscle, which is heavier than fat, and so even though you could be losing lots of fat, the muscle mass is making up for that when you step on the scales. I would recommend taking your measurements along with weighing yourself. If you see your body is shrinking, you can take a lot of comfort knowing you're on the right track, no matter what the scales say. I have known people to go from a size 14 to 10 without losing even a pound, because they were losing fat but also gaining muscle.

Another possibility is water retention. Drinking a lot of water every day is GREAT, keep it up! But if your body isn't releasing it properly you could be holding on to some weight that way. Could be hormones, that time of the month, maybe reduce your sodium intake, and see if that helps.

Not to be gross, but are you taking your fiber supplements? If you get backed up, the scales will definitely reflect something OTHER than your weight loss. Be sure to take your fiber supplements, since it's nearly impossible to get enough fiber from the foods you eat during Induction.

Another thought, are you always weighing at the same time of day, which is preferably first thing in the morning before you've eaten or had anything to drink? Your body fluctuates weight constantly, so it's best to always weigh at the same point in your daily cycles.

That's all I can think of at the moment, but hopefully some of it will help, or at least ease your mind that you needn't worry. GOOD LUCK! If you ever need anything, just drop me a PM!

          Thank You!
Simple choices we make can make a huge difference in our life! I also thought about how the Guilt would have lasted MUCH LONGER than the taste!
I do wiegh in every morning. But after gaining 4 lbs the day after Thankgiving last year!(that was the beginning of my 17 lb rapid wieght gain, I am still trying to get those 4 lbs off). Anyway I just feel that I can gain so fast and that if I stay on top of it, iT helps me be more strict.
I am in need of some fiber suppliment recomondations. I have had a hard time incorperating the flax seed meal. Now I have stopped the shakes, to see if it helps my stalls. I am waiting for another drop in the scale. More fiber might help that?
This site is proof that this Diet works!
Keep up the good work everyone!

            Re: Stalled Induction.

My weight loss went a little more smoothly once I started taking my fiber supplements (which I failed to do when I first started Atkins, for some reason I read that part of the book but overlooked it). That doesn't mean my weight loss really sped up! I think it just meant I didn't have as much excess stuff built up in my gut on some of my weigh days, because it was kept moving more normally.

I had a hard time incorporated flax seeds or anything else into my foods, too, so I have been using psyllium husk capsules. Metamucil makes one, but there are others, as well as generics that are the same thing. You can get them at any pharmacy type place, I get mine at Walgreens. They work fine for me, only down side being you have to take so many just to get a few extra grams per day. 12 capsules = 6 grams. But now that I'm used to it, it's second nature to me and I take 4 after every meal.

I still recommend not weighing every day. I know what you mean about staying on top of it, but if you weigh daily you're not seeing the overall trend and might be worried needlessly over ups and downs that are very normal. It was hard for me at first, I wanted to weigh constantly, but I realized after a few weeks that every time the scale went up, whether it was because I'd had a TON of water that hadn't been eliminated yet, or a meal that hadn't been processed yet, that all it did was stress me out and make me doubt my progress. When I switched to every week, it's taught me to TRUST the diet is working, and I haven't had a freak-out since then.

            GOOD LUCK!

Do you know if benifiber is ok to use on Atkins?
They have those flavor chews and tasteless powder.

                Re: Stalled Induction.

Perhaps the powder is different, I just took a quick glance at the ingredients of the benefiber caplets, but it was:

                Ingredients
Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum , Microcrystalline Cellulose , Confectioners Sugar , Maltodextrin , Hypromellose , Titanium Dioxide , Magnesium Stearate , Polydextrose , Colloidal Silicon Dioxide , Triacetin , Polyethylene Glycol 8000 , Methylparaben

That one entry in bold is definitely enough to steer clear of those! Even if it only has a trace amount, you should stick to the rule of thumb, which is if the ingredients list includes something not acceptable, then the item is not acceptable.

Also I believe several of the other ingredients are less than desirable. Maybe others will know more, isn't maltodextrin the bulking agent that gives Splenda its carbs? What about polydextrose, that sends up a red flag in my mind.

Another thought, and a question I leave for someone more expert, is guar gum a good source of fiber? I know DANDR recommends flax or psyllium fiber as the preferred type, and I know guar gum was the main ingredient in some diet pills that were taken off the market several years ago for causing blockages in people who used them incorrectly.

Don't think the wafers or chews whould be a good choice then. I thought that they had a sugar free in the wafers. But, bout those other ingredients... That is very interesting? I am wondering myself.

chews are bad choices no matter what the fiber source cause they have to be made to taste good or you wil not take them.

there are lots of fiber used in low carb cooking because they as soluble fibers and will suck up the liquid making it thicker since we can't use flour or corstarch

                          Re: Stalled Induction.

The sugar free variety of benefiber has only partially hydrolyzed guar gum listed as an ingredient. Nothing else.
Now, under Carbs it says 4G Dietary Fiber 3G , Soluble Fiber 3G. Why doesn't that add up? Does that mean you count 4G for carbs?

If you feel like you need extra fiber, especially for "smooth movements," I highly recommend psyllium husk capsules. I get mine at Target for about $4 or $5 for 100 capsules. They have only psyllium husk and no extra ingredients. And they work great! The psyllium husk powder is just nasty in my opinion!

Good luck and a belated welcome to the Board!

Thanks for the welcome. That gelling up on the side of the glass is indeed rather nasty. Which is why I thought the Benefiber would be a good solution. I just recieved a full size free sample of it.So I'd figure I'd try it. Thanks for tip about the capsules at Target. Before Atkins I'd take Fibercon pills. They seem to be a no-no for Atkins.
