  • Going the Atkins route, once again.....



    I did Atkins around 7 years ago, and I was very successful. I treated Atkins like a "for Now" fix and as soon as I got what I wanted, I went back to regular eating. Now married and 2 kids later I find myself 70 lbs heavier and back on Atkins. This time I realize that low carb is going to have to be a way of life for me.

    I started Feb. 3, 2006 and I have been in ketosis consistently since Feb. 10, 2006. I have not lost 1 pound, but I am fitting loosely into clothes that were uncomfortably tight before. I have exercised half of the time and only cheated by eating way too many sugar-free candies. I am completely perplexed, not to have lost or gained ANY weight???????

    Any thoughts???

    It could be that the candies (or thing slike diet sodas, etc) have your scale stuck but that your exercise is changing the fit of your clothing. Do you use fitday to track your carbs? Could be that you are taking in a bit more than you realize.

    Why don't you post a menu from yesterday and today so we can see what you are doing. Also, what type of exercise are you doing?

        Breakfast - eggs and brocoli scramble with cheese
        Lunch - side by Side salad from baja fresh - (chicken, lettuce, cheese, avocado, verde salsa)
        Snack - nuts
        Dinner - Broccoli with cheese, rotisserie chicken

        Today (weird day, very busy, husbamd had wisdom teeth pulled and baby had gymboree)
        No breakfast
        Lunch - low carb 6 dollar burger (Carls Jr.)
        Snack - a whole bag of sugar free choc. covered Macadamia Nuts (oops) 4 net carbs for the whole bag
        Dinner - nothing, felt too guilty from the chocolate

        Exercise:
        I speed walk with my dog about 1 mile a day and doo situps and lunges at home for about 30 min.

        I know I am being way too leniant with the sugar free candies, I wish I didnt even know about them!! I should just throw them away!

        I am in ketosis now and have actually never really been out since 2./10, I think I am kidding myself and not being as strict as I should be cuz I figure I am in ketosis and that I am fine. I am in this alone, my husband and kids eat whatever they want whenever! i want to lose weight and I feel good, since my clothes fit better, but I want to see more results, like on the scale.....

        Any help out there???

              Yeah, I think so.

              3 cups veggies, meat and cheese okay, LOTS of water.

              And I do all of that, its just those $%*@! sugar free candies, it has to be! My husband just "hid" my candies, cuz he wants to eat them!

                I have realized in just 10 minutes on this board what has been perplexing me the whole month on this diet. I was completely kidding myself eating those candies, it seemed too good to be true and obviously it was!
                I am enthused that maybe my weight loss is going to jump now that I have decided to do it the right way!

                  Let him at them, yes but during induction you can not have those things for at least 2 weeks and I can never have them because I was addicted bad.

                    Awesome I can not wait you will start dropping those pounds now if you need to just reread the things you used to know so they are fresh in your mind.
                    Also sugar alcohols have to be treated as a carbohydrate for most people.

                      Hi and welcome. Yeah, those sugar alcohols in many low carb sweet products can really mess you up. If I were to eat them, I would count ALL the carbs in those products, not just the net carbs. There are some very interesting articles out there on sugar alcohols and how different ones effect the body. Anyways, great decision to get rid of them. Do a clean induction, which also means no nuts by the way, and try to get rid of that sugar monster altogether! You can do it!

                        Nuts are not allowed on Induction, either. There are stickies that will tell you the allowed foods. Do you have the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins book? Your weight loss will be 100% better if you read the book. Are you drinking enough water? Also, if you read the ingredients on those chickens, they have sugar and flour in them, they inject them so they will be moist and tasty. That can stall weight loss and cause cravings, too. Its better to get a raw chicken and roast it yourself. I was bummed when I found that out, I love those roasted chickens!! Good luck and keep us posted.
