    Re: New To atkins

Welcome! Glad you've made the decision to get healthy and lose weight. Thats the biggest step. Have you purchased & read the Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution, editon 2002? It is the greatest source of info and straight from the Dr.'s mouth on how to do Atkins correctly to get best results. Make sure you do your 2-week induction and drink lots of water. Induction will reduce your cravings for sodas and other sweets. As you get thinner and feel better...you won't want to go back to the foods and sweet things that made you heavy.

I avoided the foods that I was addicted to by a)taking walks when I wanted them b)drinking extra water to fill me up c)writing about them in my journal d)measuring myself to see the inches I'd lost to convince myself not to give in and eat them d)coming here to ADBB and talking with people or reading the forums.

Have you made a plan for being successful on this WOE? (Way of Eating) It really is worth the effort if you do a diary or journal and emphasize what you are going to do and how. Focus on when you'll do your exercise, what you'll eat today, tomorrow and this week. When we don't have things planned out, we usually don't follow through with our goals. I'm sure you've heard if you fail to plan, then its planning to fail. I thoroughly agree with that.

We are thrilled to have you join us and look forward to your future posts about your success!!!
    Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Thanks so much for the information, I bought the book about a month ago and have been reading it. I wanted to be educated with the diet before I jumped into it. I will start tomarrow. I have bought a journal to map my food and exercise in. I have already put together my meals for the next two weeks so I am prepared. I have alocated 1 hour a day to exercise. I want to change my lifestyle and I think I am ready to.

That is great!! You sound like you are ready to lose!! Please stay away from the low carb bars, shakes, and candy. They cause weight loss stalls and cravings in a lot of people. Please, keep us posted!!
What would we do without it?

Just wanted to wish you luck! I'm just starting also and we actually have a similar problem - Mt Dew addiction. Oh yeah. I've been *trying* to "wean" myself from it for a couple weeks, but not doing so great...so I'll be right there in that boat with you.
Good luck though!! I bet cutting out the Dew will make a huge difference in getting to your goal when you want to... it's sooo packed with sugar.

Welcome to the Boards! This is a great place for information and support.

Regarding the Mountain Dew addiction, I understand. I used to drink at least 4 cans of Coca Cola a day. Ewwww! Now, ever diet soda doesn't taste that good. Water, water, and more water. With the amount of sugar and caffeine in Mountain Dew, if you go cold turkey, you might experience headaches for a day or two, but it will be well worth it. Just look at the label on that can - see the amount of sugar and calories? Kind of gross, isn't it? All empty calories that are doing nothing to nourish your body and are keeping you addicted to sugar! Throw those sodas in the trash and grab some water!

Regarding your goal weight, put your scale away for the 2-week Induction period. It is so easy to become obsessed over the numbers on the scale. Sometimes your body will shrink, but the scale will read the same! Grab a tape measure, and measure yourself all over. Write it down along with your starting weight. Weigh and measure yourself in two weeks. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised! Measuring your loss by clothes size is also valuable. I lost two dress sizes, but only 5 pounds were lost according to the scale!

I wish you oodles of luck!

            Big love,
            Stacy

Don't be afraid that your life will end,
be afraid that it will never begin.
