  • Back to the Atkins WOE/WOL

I have done the Atkins WOE off and on since 1999 or 2000, back then, when I first seriously started to follow this WOE I weighed in at over 330 lbs. I made it down to around 300 lbs by Spring of 2004 and have maintained that weight loss up until about a week ago when I weighed in at 310.

I did Atkins for about a week and went down to 303, when (and here is my questions) I got sick. Not sure if it was due to the Atkins WOE or if it was due to some bug that has been going around. I have never gotten physically sick before when starting Atkins or going into the Induction phase, is this something that anyone else has experienced or do you think it is just due to a virus or something. I am better now, by the way, but am hesitant about starting again--will probably wait about a week or so.

Also, on another note, during this past week when I was doing the Atkins WOE I was drinking a lot of fluids (caffeine free diet soda, water, and sugar-free kool aid [made for diabetics]) and for some reason I am always thirsty while on Atkins, and have to urinate more frequently, is this common among anyone else?

    Gary.

Re: Back to the Atkins WOE/WOL

Hi Gary and welcome to ADBB and back to Atkins!

And oh yes, being thirsty is normal, the increased protein acts as a diuretic! You're body will adjust in time, but with amount of fluids we drink you'll be "going" often!

I'm sorry you were sick, I can't say whether Atkins would have affected you a week after you started, Induction Flu symptoms usually start prior to that - so it possible you had the regular flu.

So, when is your official start date? Today?

Glad you found the board, hope to see you around!

Hi and welcome. I agree with Sheshy, you sure will be more thirsty on this woe. It's important to drink lots of water. You may very well have gotten the 'induction flu' which many of us get to different degrees. I was really sick, vomiting even but it went away after a few days and I never felt better. Glad to have you with us.

Re: Back to the Atkins WOE/WOL

Thank you for your comments. I am pretty sure it was just a regular flu, nothing related to the atkins woe. Because I was sick I had to take a break from Atkins, but since I am feeling much better now I will start again on Monday, April 3. Another question I have, which has probably been answered elsewhere, what are the best multivitamins to take while on the atkins woe? I have had bad experiences with the atkins products themselves in the past and want to stay away from anything made by them, or at least in moderation.

        gary.

I take generic or Trader Joes (very reasonable) I refuse to pay for a name brand when I can use the money to buy better food
