hi all! i'm soooo glad i found this site.
i did atkins a few years back doing absolutely great losing 50 lbs in 4 months, looked awesome and had self confidence for once in my life. then i got hospitalized and diagnosed with bipolar disorder and went quickly from a manic episode straight into a deep depression and found myself needing my bread and potato comfort foods. (not to mention the hospital had hassled me about my diet requests
and tried to load me up with carbs.) i quit atkins altogether when i steadily gained and whirled out of control gaining back every pound plus about 15 extra, at my heaviest.
weighing in at 215 and only being 5 ft. tall has been so depressing and i've decided to do something about it considering i'm at great risk for type II diabetes and heart disease. i also think this is an opportune time since i've just turned 31 and as you get older, sometimes the weight likes to hang on.
my husband is the greatest in the world and is incredibly supportive. he did a search for atkins online supports/chats/forums and bookmarked this site for me. i went ahead and started atkins 3/4/06 and by today have lost my first 20 lbs. but i hadn't checked out this site till yesterday and was getting a little discouraged that every couple days i seem to gain back a lb. or two and then lose it again .. sort of yo yo'ing. turns out i've been buying some low-carb candies and whatnot to help me with variety in my day and i've read some posts here that clearly state this is not a great idea. i wish i had done a totally clean induction from day one but i thought you could have most things as long as you stayed under your 20g of carbs a day. i also didn't realize the amount of water i'm supposed to consume. thank god i LOVE water and it's all i drink. i just have to make sure to meet the requirement by the end of the day.
anyway, i'm hoping i can just toss away my low carb tortillas/candies and things and stay on extended induction for awhile longer and maybe the weight loss will pick up.
i'm so glad to have found you guys!
