  • New To Atkins

Hi, I too am new to Atkins, I have read the book and been browsing around this site and made the decision last night that I'm going to lose that last 30 pounds the Atkins way! Great to see so much support here - I know there will be days I really need it!

I was wondering if anyone has advice for sticking with the plan while working shift work - kicking caffeine will definately be a hard one while working a 12 hour night shift and then going home to 3 boys! (4 including my DH) Any suggestions from fellow shift workers or others would be really appreciated - I really want to stick with a clean induction as it sounds like it truly sets the stage for success!

I will be starting on Tuesday after my last night shift this weekend.

    Re: New To Atkins

Just wanted to say welcome. I lost most of my weight doing other diets instead of Atkins but then had a stubborn 20 lbs that wouldnt come off. But after doing Atkins and seeing it melt away I was convinced that this was the only way for me to go.

And now I have gained back 10 lbs so I am back on induction...so far so good. Two days down.

Sorry I dont really know anything about shift work...I am a SAHM mom...and I never gave up my caffeine...so I wish you the best of luck w/ that.

Hi Tiffany, I too am a SAHM during the week but work my shifts on the weekend when my husband is home with the kids - I love having the flexibility to be at home while they're little (I'm a lab technologist in a children's hospital) I'll go back to regular days once they are all in school full time.

Glad to here that the diet works even for those last few stubborn post pregnancy pounds! Did you continue with caffeine while on induction? Did it slow your weight loss? Maybe the caffeine effect varies from person to person?

I always drank my coffee. I never stopped. I cut down on the coffee from 3 cups to a cup but I never completely gave it up. I would probably rip my husbands head off if I didnt have my morning coffee..rofl.

Coffee, you should really give it up. You will get lots of real energy from Atkins, and coffee is fake energy that leads to a blood sugar spike and can lead to cheating. Coffee also has carbs in it, and have to be counted. Please, I used to drink coffee all day long, and never believed I could live without it, but I can!! It really does help to do a clean Induction, no low-carb junk, no cafeine, and foods that are only on the allowed list. You are worth it!!
What would we do without it?

          Mini-goal- 149 by June 1st. I can do it!!!

Frankenfoods- Low Carb Shakes, Bars, Candies.
Sugar Alcohols= Weight loss stalls and cravings!!
          These are BAD for us!!!!

Thanks so much for your feedback and support!

I will drink my iced water and give up my caffeine - and try not to fall asleep at work, I'll be 4 days into induction next time I work a night so hopefully my carbs will be out and I will have that energy boost to get me through!

Thanks again! Sunflowergrl you had the same starting weight as I do and you're down 20 lbs! Way to go! That was so encouraging to see for me!

              Re: New To Atkins

I am starting now too and also am a caffeine addict (hence my login name). I am doing 1-2 diet cokes a day (down from 6+). I hope to be off of them by the end of the week. I work early hours and really need the DC to get through the first hour. For me, it is more of the act of holding it in my hand that I need more than actually drinking it. I can't tell you how many half-full cans I day I used to throw away.

Good luck, I know where you are coming from. I am drinking more water and craving it, so hopefully I will knock the dc habit soon.

I just have never been able to give up my coffee. I am doing good to cut back to only one cup a day. But I guess I can try and give it a shot. I mean it is totally worth it if I am going to get serious about doing the induction.
