  • Last kid, last time to lose extra weight...

Ok, I just had my 3rd child back in mid November. With the other two kids, I lost almost all the weight I wanted with Atkins (I was breastfeeding so I let myself carry extra weight) and maintained it until I got pregnant again. I just finished breastfeeding, FINALLY. SO, I'm 33 this time, just had my LAST child, and I've been on the induction phase of Atkins since April 5th. I wanted to be a full week into induction before posting anything. I've been rereading my dog-eared Atkins book for 1 1/2 weeks now to refresh my memory. I gave myself a few months to lose the actual beginning baby weight so I'm not starting with all those extra lbs. counting 'against' me. When I started on the 5th, I'd been stuck at 224 lbs (OH MY GOSH!) for about a month. So, I figured that was all I was going to drop off quickly after the baby (I was up to over 256 the day I gave birth-I gained 60 lbs. with this last pregnancy-same as the other 2 kids). My OFFICIAL starting weight will be 224. As of this morning, the 13th, I am down to 217. So, 7 lbs. in 8 days. I go really STRICT. All water to drink, I don't do caffeine anyway, I don't smoke, don't drink (and I'm still a FUN person!). My goal is to lose 78 lbs. total. I want to be at 150 ideally. I'm pretty much happy with anything between 160-170 though, because I start to feel pretty happy with myself around that weight. I currently am wearing a tight 14 pants (or a loose 16). I want to be a 8-10 comfortable. I make myself exercise for approx. 30 min. a day minimum(sometimes that might be walking, weeding, stepping, an exercise tape, swimming, etc.) right now. I'd like to increase that over time.

The reason I joined this board was to not do this by myself this time. Sometimes, you JUST WANT A COOKIE, or 5 COOKIES. My weakness is bread. You give me a fresh roll, garlic bread, etc., you're my pal for life. I just hope to find the encouragement and support to help me do this for the last time in my life. I swear, last Friday (2 days in), I actually opened a box of my husband's chewy chocolate chip cookies (my husband is already fit) and smelled the cookies. I DIDN'T CHEAT! I just smelled them. Crazy, huh? But, it satisfied me. Now that I'm over a week in, I don't have those cravings anymore. That first week is the ROUGHEST.

I work 35 hours a week, my kids are 8,4 1/2, and 4 1/2 months. I live in Northern Maryland. We have a permanent campsite in PA.

    Hello all!

Hi and WELCOME. I think you will do great. But you have got to eat carbs. Doing 0 carbs if I understand you post correctly, will not do you good. You have to cut down your carbs, not cut them out. I see myself similar to you in the weight catagory. I started Atkins on 3/06 and as of this morning I weigh 225 (started at 240). I'm pumped about this site and the support you get just reasing the posts. If you need to express yourself feel free we are all here to help each other. Good luck and keep "smelling" the cookies only, don't eat them.... (ha ha).
Well, keep on your eating plan and excersice and before you know it we both will reach 150 lbs.

Nice to meet you. I started last year after I finished breast feeding my last child.

I am concerned about you eating 0 carbs. You need to eat your vegetables. You want to be thin and healthy!

Good point. I forgot to mention I only do 0 carbs for approx. 8-10 days. Seems to help my cravings. (Learned that the second kid!) I will have veggies and stuff in my diet by Saturday. Otherwise, I seem to go nuts longer wanting the carbs. I am pretty much all tuna fished/egged out by then anyway. I'm all ready for some veggies here shortly. BTW, I am doing vitamins.

Thanks for the point though! I need to remember to have a big juicy salad on Saturday!

Re: Last kid, last time to lose extra weight...

          Welcome!

Doing 0 carbs for Induction is not doing Atkins. This is why so many people fail at Atkins and mess up their bodies in the process. Atkins is not no carb, it is low carb with carbs coming from veggies.

You should be eating 15-20 net carbs per day on Atkins Induction. It's not good for your health or energy to not have any carbs. I understand what you are probably trying to do, but the cravings and hunger, etc. are normal during Induction and it will pass more quickly and you will feel better if you do things right.

          So please, eat those veggies!

          Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
          Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

          Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
          Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
          Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!

            Hi there Fit,

I just wanted to take a minute to say a quick hi and hello : ) It definitely sounds to me like you are well on your way to becoming a healthier you. I too lost all of my extra "baby lbs and then some" after my daughter Taylor was born (she's eight now) but somehow managed to gain another 85 lbs while I was pregnant with my son Andon (he's 2 now) I was never able to get all of that weight off after he was born and actually gained a few extra lbs due to "emotional" eating stemmed from having 3 failed pregnancies since. It's ironic now, that I am actively losing weight - so that I can try again for a healthy pregnacy (with a normal weight gain limit .. hopefully) I've decide to take some time off for myself before TTC again - and feel both inspired and supported by the ADBB board. What amazing tools we all have access to through this board!

            Elisabeth

ps - do what works best for you (as a mom, I'm sure you know to eat your veggies ..) I follow the DANDR book - but for me - I had to start induction (especially with having younger kids at home) backwards, otherwise I wouldn't have made it. (I uped my carbs to 25-30 a day because I ate 1-2 tbsp of paenut butter through my first few weeks - and stayed in deep dark ketosis - made it through the sugar flu - and now am currently going through a clean induction. You know yourself better than anyone else - and if you had to be a "carbless junkie" for a week - good for you. I am proud of you for wanting to be a happier, healthier you - for your children, your husband - and most importantly, for yourself.

              Welcome to the board, Heather!

              I'm 33 too and have 2 girls....and done. lol.

Make sure you find time for you. Yes, I understand that's just totally a wild suggestion. Trust me, make time to exercise and you will see a world of difference not only in the inches you will lose, but the stamina to keep up with the little ones will be awesome!

Can't wait to hear about your permanent camp site in PA and how life is in Maryland.

Don't forget...come join the journal threads.

              Best wishes!
