  • UK'er restarting Atkins

Hi my name is Janine and I live in sunny old England. I am 24 years old and a student. I have previously used Atkins once before to go from 120lbs to 110lbs when I had gained from 105lbs to 125lbs. I maintained at 110lbs for about a year without really sticking to the Atkins plan and then obviously it started to all pile back on again through existing on bread, bread and more bread lol I was beginning to look like part of the furniture at Subway I also suffered with depression really badly last year and was ill requiring me to have bed rest of 4 months which meant I couldnt exercise and I hadnt rejoined since due to lack of confidence in my body since the illness/depression. I was a real gym bunny before so the 4-6 months of inactivity saw my weight soar to a high of 147lbs!!! I am only 5'2 and have a really tiny frame so that saw me go from a UK size 6-8 in clothes to a 14-16, very upsetting. I have rejoined the gym and also been healthier in my eating lately going down to 133lbs since Dec 05 and losing a dress size down to a 12-14. However I am now stuck and realise that this is the only thing that is going to work for me again as I love my food and I enjoy all natural foods like fish, meat and vegetables. I remembered how I didnt miss the bread and pasta last time, especially seeing as I appear to get quite ill from something in bread and pasta when I eat too much of it I get a rash on my arms and stomach and my lips swell up and I get tummy cramps/diahorhea, hmm you would have thought I would have given it up before now wouldnt you ? Denial is a wonderful state lol.

I also rarely drink alcohol so wont mind giving it up until I am allowed to reintroduce it and enjoy cooking. I am studying to be a Dietician, and my personal opinion is that if it is done correctly, and it works for you, then Atkins is an ideal way to eat/live. I recently found this site and thought it would be a wonderful way to gain some support/motivation and also seems very helpful for answering any of my questions and also general chit chat (you all seem very friendly)

So I start on Friday 21st of April ( I dont have any money till then I am a poor student lol and need to get the foods in) but will be eating as low carb as I can this week on what is in my cupboards and then shall be starting out afresh on Friday with a complete getting rid of my carbs from my cupboards.

I know that I can get to my weight goal with a bit of determination and (hopefully) some support from you guys.

Sorry for long intro, I tend to ramble a lot as you will probably see later on.

    Thanks for listening.

            Janine,

            Welcome to .
I am a newbie too. I understand the poor college student situation as my little sister complains about it all the time. She tried Weight Watchers, but the food was too expensive for her. Well, welcome to the family.

H20, Sallyseachange and Austlyn - thanks for welcome.

I cant afford to start till Friday, so I will start a proper journal and post more about my weight loss then. I have started a journal already in journal chats but nothing about diet yet as I havent started the plan yet, but will just generally update about gym etc for moment.
