  • New to Atkins and loving it!

    Hello Everyone!

My husband and I are new to the Atkins diet, and we are so happy with the results so far! We are almost at our two week mark of induction, and both of us have lost 12 pounds each! It's great that we have each other for support, I don't know how some people do it on their own!
Hats off to all of you who've done soooo well! The stories and pictures on this site are truly an inspiration! I know that if all of you can do it, we can do it too!
I have a couple of questions about the extended Induction, if anyone could offer their advice. My husband has a lot more weight to lose that I do, and he's wanting to stay on Induction for a longer period. I just want to make sure that it is safe to be on for an extended time or not. Any suggestions or experience advice would be greatly appreciated!
So again, congrats to all of you dedicated Atkins lovers! You rock! We're so happy to be a part of

    Thanks everyone!

Hi Abbey. Welcome aboard to you and your husband!! Congrats on the loss! It's exciting isn't it? And how wonderful that you are doing it together! It's great to have that at home support!
Can you give us some info on your stats and your DH's? Age, height, weight, how much you want to lose? That would help us help you.

          Hey Thanks Abbey!
Lots of people stay on extended induction for quite a while, especially those with lots to lose. The only real danger is getting bored with the same foods all the time. And sometimes when the weight loss slows down the OWL will help kick it started again!
Best of luck to both of you!!

Oh I just looked again. Your goal weight is 1?? LOLOL. Dayum!

Re: New to Atkins and loving it!

Welcome to the Atkin's WOL! It sounds like you both are off to a great start. Be sure to check out the recipe threads. I've been looking through them and there are many great ideas for keeping induction interesting. I can't believe I went through months of induction acouple years ago without ever using cream cheese! Keep up the good work, and keep us updated!
                Best Wishes!

Re: New to Atkins and loving it!

Thanks for all the inspiration everyone! It's so good to see the before and after pictures too. You all look awesome! Hopefully I'll figure out how to post pictures too...maybe after I work up enough courage! lol
Did any of you get sick while you were on induction? I recently just finished my induction, and came down with the flu. Of course I didn't get the flu from the diet, but could my immunity be lower or something? I had to leave work early yesterday, and my supervisor gave me a little recommendation (in a snotty tone of course)..."get off the diet, it's bad for you and that's why your sick" I was so hurt! It's not my fault that I came across a virus! I work in a hospital for pete's sake! It's really hard getting the negative feed back from people. Who knows, maybe she's just jealous that I've lost weight and she hasn't....I don't know. Any feedback would be great!
                  Thank you everyone!

Re: New to Atkins and loving it!

Hi, welcome and CONGRATS on such great success in your first 2 weeks, doesn't it feel terrific?!

I'm so envious that you have your husband to do Atkins with, my husband eats normally and I think having a partner to diet with would make things soooo much easier. Best of luck to both of you!

Your boss sure is not only ignorant, but awfully mean-spirited to say what she did to you! Nothing could be healthier than this diet. People who think it's unhealthy just don't understand what it really is. Sadly there are a million and one rumors and misconceptions floating around out there, and way too many people who like to go with the flow as far as that's concerned. Either let it roll of your back, or gear up to defend your way of eating and even convert the ignorant! How can anyone argue with the weight loss results, health improvements, and even if they just saw what you eat each day they couldn't possibly argue. But above all, don't let her get to you!

Oh, and I almost forgot, but regarding Extended Induction yes it's absolutely safe to stay on induction for a long time. I've been on it now since January 3, and plan to stay on it until either the 4th of July or Labor Day, I haven't decided yet. But if your hubby does get bored with the food choices, OWL offers some additional variety without slowing down weight loss (for most folks). I mostly don't move on to OWL because I'm intimidated by it and don't want to mess with the great results I'm getting on Induction. And I don't trust myself yet to eat things like berries and nuts in moderation without going overboard and eating the whole bag. But when I get closer to goal I'll definitely take the plunge.

Good luck to both of you, we're happy you joined us!
Female / Currently on Extended Induction (again), begun 6/2/08.

I did Extended Induction from 1/3 to 5/9 (2006) and lost 55 pounds, so I know I can do it again!
