  • Newbie Greetings

    Hello everyone.

I will start the induction phase Friday 04/21/06 and I am not really new to Dr. Atkins Diet. I was in the Navy since 1976 and began to notice I was getting over the standards for height/weight in 1980. My Senior Chief turned me on to Dr. Atkins 1980 in Cubi Point, Philippines and it worked. I was able to use Atkins diet program to maintain my military standards through 1990 when I left the military for Civil Service life. Then I caved to my desire to eat. I gained 200 pounds from 1990 to 1993 and ballooned to 390 pounds. Life was very bad for me. Type 2 diabetes, high everything (colest, tryglic, b-pressure) and it was disgusting-not a happy camper.

My doctor had me on 15 meds a day and suggested stomach stapling and I took him up on his recommendation in 1995. From 1995 to 1997 I lost 150 lbs and most of my blood work came back better but still not bueno (little Spanish lingo). So, I just stagnated around 220 to 260 from 1977 to present day.

My wife nudged me to try something else to kick the last 100 pounds off. I decided to go back to what worked for me the first time; Dr. Atkins approach. It will be a little tricky with my stapling in and eating meat but I think I can manage it. In addition to my wife’s nudging, she bought me a Orbital from Nordic Trac so I can begin an exercise routine too.

I wonder about my wife's nudging, could it be a hint that it's time to do something about my health? I am close to 50 now and I am sure she is more concerned now than she was 30 years ago when I was just a young stud. haha.

I appreciate this bulletin board because of the direct access to others with the same problem and their similar experiences. This will help motivation and a feeling of not being alone. Thanks to all of you.

Welcome. I'm so glad you found our board, it's the best support I know of.

What could be more important than your health? Good luck, you definitely can do this!
Female / Currently on Extended Induction (again), begun 6/2/08.

I did Extended Induction from 1/3 to 5/9 (2006) and lost 55 pounds, so I know I can do it again!
