  • I haven't even started Induction yet, and it's already working...

    Hi y'all,

I'm starting Induction this weekend after I hit Costco to stock up. I've been using this week as a "practice" week - not sticking strictly to the book, but cutting out chocolate and a few other things. I think the inches are already starting to come off, so I'm excited to see what happens when I hit this thing full-bore.

I like this forum. You guys are very inspiring.

      Welcome!

I think a practice week is a great idea! For some people, easing into the changes is a LOT easier than trying to go Cold Turkey. I dabbled in Atkins back in 2003, and went cold turkey, and I was miserable. I got the worst case of Induction flu, paired with horrible headaches from caffeine withdrawal. It truly undermined my resolve, and I eventually failed. This time around, I went off caffeine a month before I planned to begin Atkins, so I got the caffeine withdrawal dealt with by itself. Then I removed sugar from my diet about a week before I was going to start Atkins. Then I started Induction and this time it was a breeze. I didn't even have induction flu, as a matter of fact I felt better almost instantly, within a day or two of starting.

You couldn't find a better bunch of people than here at ADBB. If you have any questions or need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask (PM me anytime)!
Female / Currently on Extended Induction (again), begun 6/2/08.

I did Extended Induction from 1/3 to 5/9 (2006) and lost 55 pounds, so I know I can do it again!

I think you will be thankful that you stepped down to Atkins slowly. When I started originally I limited candies and sweets for a few weeks before hand and I think it helped my body not to go into sugar withdrawl quite as badly. Let us know how induction goes!
        Best Wishes!

I noticed your start weight was 197 and your current weight is 142, what diet did you use to get down that far?
          Male, 255 start / 185 now / original goal of 200

None in particular. In 2003-04, when I lost that weight (and more besides), I believed there was merit in much of what Dr. Atkins said, but I only adopted a "moderate-carb-with-cheat-day" approach because I didn't want to give up coffee and chocolate, low-carb or otherwise. I was working out much more often during that time period too. (I still exercise, just not as often because I work longer hours & go to school now.)

I held comfortably at 132 lbs for about a year, then hit some personal stress & gained ten pounds. That's why I'm here. I'm finding my old approach doesn't work as well, and I also think it would be good for me to kill these addictions (or at least find out if they can be killed) so they won't keep coming back to haunt me.

FWIW, I don't care so much about the lbs - I just want my size 4s to fit again.
