  • It's Scooter again....

    Hi everybody,

    Weigh in today....11 pounds total since last monday, wow!!!

    Very happy.

    Couple of questions....at the atkins site, they have a carb counter....how accurate is that?

    For example, beef jerky they say has 3 - 4 carbs per large piece...formed and chopped...

    I make my own, soy sauce 0 carbs, worchershire sauce, 0 carbs, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, lemon pepper, all like 1t each for 6 pounds of meat...where are the carbs?

    also, I know I brought this up the other day....but....olive oil, vinegar, water and a teaspoon of italian seasoning(no sugar)....are there carbs in the Italian seasoning?

    I lost my book :-( buying a new one this weekend....

    I think the reccomended carb counter around here is fitday.com

    As for the Italian seasoning...there's not information on the packet?
    I'm not sure otherwise.

      weigh to go congrats on those pounds.

      yep carbs in dried spices you can use any carb counter you want but use it consistantly don't pick and chose your count from one site or another just cause A is lower on one site and B is lower on the other.

      You can check out the carbs in any real food recipe you make at http://www.recipecal.com/ once you sign up for a free account. dried spices have carbs, vinegar has carbs, herb have carbs.

            11 pounds 1 week woooooooowy!!!I think they mean store bought items because they add sugar?

              Hi and welcome! Congrats on the 11 pound loss, that's amazing for one week, bravo!

              Great site 2big, I didn't know about that, thanks!

              I use fitday to plug in custom foods for all my recipes, and it has a decent selection of herbs/spices on there. Yes, herbs and spices almost ALL have a bit of carbs, but not usually enough to make a big difference in your intake, but you do still have to count them. If your mix has sugar in it, it would have to be included on the label, otherwise just treat it as a regular spice/herb blend.

              Your homemade jerky almost DEFINITELY doesn't have the 3-4 carbs per piece like they have on the carb counter. I'd recommend plugging all the ingredients into Fitay or that site that 2big provided, you can figure out EXACTLY how many carbs per ounce you've got. I make my own jerky too, and it's VERY low in carbs, way way lower than 3-4 per piece, more like 1-2 per several pieces.
