Hi All, first timer here, actually my brother convinced me to try the Atkins diet, he has had great success. I weigh 225 pounds and want to get to 140, i have always felt comfortable at 140, i just cant remember when i weighed that last. I am doing this for health reasons and for more energy, my husband and I run a wildlife rehabilitaton facility where we rehab injured and orphaned Hawks and owls, i need the energy, plus i had gestational diabetes while pregnant with my 10 year old and the docs all say, "Lose weight or you will have Diabetes when you get older." So here i am. Starting my 14 day induction today. So, i graciously will accept any words of encouragement, and advice.

    Re: Introduction

Welcome! Sounds like you have great reasons for adopting a healthier way of eating.

Have you read the book? We call it DANDR around here -- make sure to get the last version Dr. Atkins did, not the more recent ones. That'll really help you understand the science behind Atkins, which is the best way to acheive success.

Your rehab facility sounds really cool!

You are SO LUCKY to have your brother to help you with this! I rely on this board for support, help and answers to my many questions, but it must be nice to have a real and trusted person that you can call on anytime! Good for you!

Welcome to ADBB. This place is amazing, if you're like me you will find it indispensable to your success as you go forward. I've never found a friendlier or more helpful bunch of people anywhere.

I echo what they've said about reading the book, that's essential. There's also a searchable version online here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0060...41#reader-page
Just search for the word "Carbohydrate" and you can read it from beginning to end online. That's also VERY helpful if you need to look up something specific right quick.

As for advice, just the basics. Follow the rules, to the letter. Drink lots of water. Exercise. I can't wait to watch your success! Good luck!
Female / Currently on Extended Induction (again), begun 6/2/08.

I did Extended Induction from 1/3 to 5/9 (2006) and lost 55 pounds, so I know I can do it again!

          The reason I quit...
