  • New Kid on the block!!!

    Hi everybody,
My name is Margaret and I got started with Atkins on the 3rd of April and I have been o induction since then.
    I weighed 182.6 pounds when I started (I'm 5 11') and I weighed 171.6 when i weighed myself last week.
It's been a bit tough getting used to the new routine and my biggest challenge now is that i'm so tired of eating poultry and beef
Second challenge is that i've been eating peanuts and havin some diet coke.
Please advise me on these food choices and let me know how I can get more craetive foodwise.
My target weight is 143 pounds and even below (just worried about my height) and I don't ever want to get off the Atkins routine.

Please giv advise....I've read the book!!

Diet coke and aspartame really caused problems for me and sabotaged several attempts to lose weight. I would recommend giving serious consideration to getting rid of diet cokes. You know that stuff can't be good for you.

    Restarted induction on 4/21 @ 243

      Hey New Kid,

I'm a new kid too, I've been on Atkins since April 5th and have lots 15 lbs so far! (I need to make one of those weight tracker thingys)
I know what you mean about the drink issue. I drink diet pop also, I know it's bad with the aspartame and everything, but it's never effected my weight loss. It just depends on you, I guess. I also drink all my water everyday too, so that super helps! Why don't you try some herbal teas, flavor it with splenda if you need to, but most of them you don't even need it. That's another way to get your water up.
The recipes on this site are great! If you don't mind cooking, then give some of them a try. I made the no sugar/no flour peanut butter cookies, and man oh man were they good! The only thing is watching your portion control, it was hard to eat just one.

Take care and wtg with your weight loss so far, your doing great!

Re: New Kid on the block!!!

Hi Freshstart and welcome to ADBB!

You've had a great start! 11 pounds is awesome!

About the variety...hit the recipe/cookbook and find some new recipes! That's the best way to change it up and keep it interesting! Also, there's a whole forum devoted to recipes and cooking and lot's of people to help you out there!

As for the nuts and pop...well, I try to avoid pop and have it as an occasional treat (usually flavored water) and instead pack a big bottle of water with me were ever I go! Nuts...they're a treat too and measured out for a serving, they're too easy to keep eating! But, if you're in your 14 Day of Induction, nuts aren't in the plan yet...so you'll want to hold off for now.

As for advise, keep reading - check out the forums, find some you like and visit and post often. Follow the Atkins by the book, exercise, drink lot's of water, eat whole foods...you'll do great!

        See you around the board!

Re: New Kid on the block!!!

          Hello,

My name is Ann and I too am new to the program. I just started on Monday, April 24th. I was so disgusted with myself physically and mentally. I think my breaking point was when I put on a new pair of pants that I had just bought a few weeks ago, I couldn't even button them! I knew I was just getting bigger and bigger and I felt so bad. Well, I woke up this morning, feeling pretty good (I might add ), made myself a cup of decaf. with 1 tsp. heavy whipping cream, and I thought to myself, "I'm going to go weigh." So I got a pair of shorts that were too tight and took them to the scale with me. My thinking was, as I have been reading on these boards that if I hadn't lost any weight, maybe I had lost inches. I got on the scale and was down 4.5 pounds. YES! Then I tried on the shorts and they buttoned!
Just wanted to share and tell you all thank you for your input and informative boards here. They have really helped me tons! I also love the before and after pics. They are such and inspiration! I'll have some one of these days .
Hope everyone has a good day!

Re: New Kid on the block!!!

Welcome and CONGRATS on your 11 pound weight loss, that's an EXCELLENT beginning, hopefully it will motivate you even further to stick to the plan.

You've already gotten the good advice that I would've provided regarding nuts and diet coke, so listen to what you're hearing, and you'll be glad you did.

Regarding recipes, there are SO MANY foods you can have that just spending a little time looking for recipes might change your eating dramatically. I NEVER get bored, and I've been on induction for nearly 4 months now! There are so many options and combinations and creative things to make. Just go to the recipe forums and look around, I definitely think it'll pay off.

            Good luck, and welcome again!
Female / Currently on Extended Induction (again), begun 6/2/08.

I did Extended Induction from 1/3 to 5/9 (2006) and lost 55 pounds, so I know I can do it again!

            The reason I quit...
