    Hi all

I joined this forum today and here is my background story...

I'm 23 and was quite a small child, gaining weight when I hit puberty. Eating lots and no exercise made me balloon out and I was quite big throughout secondary school (11yrs - 16yrs) size 14-16 I think. I was size 16 throughout college and ballooned to a 18-20 when I got a full time job at a hotel. The shift work wasnt good for a routine so I was eating at weird times and eating lots of chocolate and crisps. Then towards the end of last year my best friend decided to lose weight (altho I didnt think she was that overweight at all) and in a few months she lost 3 stone and looked fab! She did the Atkins diet and I didnt agree with it. Then January hit and again I decided to lose weight. I weighed 15 stone 4 lbs and went on a low fat diet and went to the gym a few nights a week but I only lost a few pounds in a few weeks. My mate suggested that I tried Atkins so I did in Febuary and from 14th Feb until 26th June I lost 3 stone (44lbs isnt it?!). I gave up after June as I kind of lost motivation after meeting my partner but I managed to get down to 11 stone 10lbs. I managed to keep the weight off for a while but by November I had gained a stone. I started Atkins and the gym again and a week later my father passed away very suddenly. I cope with sadness by eating and now I'm 14 stone.

I'm going to Florida in September and I have started Atkins again (day 3!). Losing weight was one of the best things I have ever done and I just wish I had had the motivation to keep going at it when I was at my lowest. But never mind! I'm trying it again and I have something to look forward too.

I'm hoping that this forum will keep me on track. I've had a look at some before and after pics of people and they are such an inspiration!

Keep up the good work everyone!!

    Angel xx

            Welcome
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
            he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Yay another Brit lol Although I should be punished for calling myself a Brit, stones and all confuse the **** out of me! lol Give me pounds and inches any day

Well done on starting again. You just have to keep reminding yourself why you're doing this. I came to realization that even though I had tough times, got sick, had a holiday coming up (christmas hit me hard!) or even went on vacation, I had to, HAD TO persevere, and manage through.

Keep a fat picture by you at all times. I have a fat picture of me in my wallet (see my signature) and I also have my boyfriend's before and after picture next to it in my wallet for inspiration. He lost 125 lbs in 9 months (I think thats like, 9 stone) so I know it's possible. He doesnt cheat at all, and he's such an inspiration to me. He sticks to his diet through everything! I'm so proud of him for doing it, and he's so proud of what I've done so far. But knowing that I have something to work for works so well!

So that's the key! This is a way of life, you have to change your life. You can't go off it for some birthday cake, or have a break to go on vacation.

Good point is that if you're coming to Florida on vacation, you'll have endless choices of things to eat when you're out

              Good luck!!

                Hi, and WELCOME!

I'm so so so sorry about the loss of your dad, that must have been a very low time for you.

I hope you find everything you need to stay motivated and on plan here in the forums. I find that being active here makes ALL the difference in my success, because being here amongst people with the same goals and outlook truly keeps me focused on the goal. I encourage you to find a few forums you like and then stay active in them DAILY, or as often as you can. Maybe join some exercise challenges, weight loss challenges, or some other challenges so you have accountability. I know it helps me more than most anything else!

You can definitely do this. And you have the good fortune to KNOW that the plan works for you, from past experience, so you have the upper hand there over newbies who are unsure.

Best of luck, we're all rooting for you, and we're here if you need any help at all, just holler!

Well.....my restart didnt really go to plan! So gona start again on Monday. Still not completely motivated for some reason. Florida seems so far away.

But thank you for all of your supportive messages. Will go and check out the UK thread.

Def 1 idea is to have a weight chart at work with pics of beaches and bikini's. Going to get my bf to take a pic of me in underwear to hopefully become more motivated!
