  • Hello

    Hi everyone!

I used to visit this board awhile back (oh like two or more years ago) and it really was a great support. I tried doing Atkins on my own and got so sick of it and that's when the bad things started creeping into my diet.

Let me start way at the beginning.
Back in 1998 I started Atkins and did it for 5 months and lost 65lbs. Had to stop because I found out I was pregnant after trying to concieve for over 6 yrs!
I've been back to Atkins here and between giving birth to another baby (now have two girls ages almost 7 and almost 5). I feel like I'm always doing Atkins to a certain point. I must have brain washed myself because even when I'm not dieting, I don't eat pasta, rice or potatoes, lol.
Anyway .. I started out in 1998 at 309lbs and am currently at 245 but since C-Mas I've gained 20lbs back after having reached my ultimate low of 225! I've always been overweight, and wow was it nice to fit into some smaller, cuter clothes, but I can't seem to get past the temptations. I blame it on ALWAYS being in diet mode and the urges to cheat are so very overwhelming. That's why I'm back here. I so need the support of others in my same situation. I also need my dh to kick my butt out of bed and not let me on the computer in the mornings so that I actually do my exercise dvd. I know I can do it, cuz I've done it before .. but I'm just in a slump and my willpower is wearing so thin.

Thanks for reading this far. You'll definetly see me around often, cuz this is where I'll come when I feel that urge to eat chocolate or sugar products.

              Re: Hello

              Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Congrats on your past success, and I can't wait to watch your journey to even greater success! You're right, you CAN do this, and you have a LOT of people here to help you along the way.

I think there's nothing more damaging to this way of life than staying in a "diet mentality"! I would like to address that more than anything else you've mentioned, because on Atkins there's positively NO reason to be in a diet mentality! Atkins is about healthy eating, not starvation and not deprivation. On Atkins, you are told to eat when you feel hungry, no matter when it is, no matter how frequently it is. How many other diets tell you that? And on Atkins, the most amazing foods are LEGAL and ALLOWABLE, there's almost NO reason to cheat at all! There are even decadent chocolate desserts you can make that would be 100% allowable as an occasional treat! (check out the food and recipes forum). Obviously moderation is key, but I urge you to lose the diet mentality, all it can do is sabotage you in the end. The one thing I always tell myself when I have even the slightest urge to cheat is, "When a diet allows CHEESECAKE, what need is there to cheat?"!

Congrats on your little girls, I'm VERY happy for you. I've been trying to conceive for 5.5 years myself and am becoming quite down about the failure thus far. I'm happy to hear about your success, it gives me hope.

Stay active here with us, and find accountability. Join challenges and exercise challenges so you have daily interaction and feedback (those help me a TON). I find it's SO much easier to do this with all the support I find here, so I'm really glad you've joined us.

              Good luck!

I did Extended Induction from 1/3 to 5/9 (2006) and lost 55 pounds, so I know I can do it again!
