  • I'm a newbie, but I'm not.....

Hi I'm Susan and I'm 34 years old. I'm a newbie here, but I have belonged to other low carb sites for a while. I figure I need all the support I can get! Right now, I weigh around 180 lbs. I have been very thin most of my life, but my metabolism slowed way down in my 20's. At the age of 25, I came down with chronic fatigue syndrome, and I have had a myriad of health problems from that point on. I had to start on thyroid medication and after a few years my hair grew back and I gained some energy back, but I still couldn't seem to lose any weight. I have been on a diabetic diet for around 10 years now, because I noticed that I'm sensitive to sugar and it gives me migraines. I also have problems with candida and so it is best just to avoid sugar, which is hard because people are always trying to force it on me, and think I'm nuts when I tell them that I don't eat sugar. I used to. I used to eat a half a tin of brownies every day after school with a big old glass of regular coke, but I can't do that anymore. In high school, I was a tall thin ectomorph, and I could eat and eat and not gain an ounce. Now, I'm big in the middle with a big butt, and skinny little stick arms and ankles. I feel very out of proportion. Anyway, I love the Atkin's diet! No deprivation. No extreme hunger and I love the sugar free desserts. I plan on eating this way the rest of my life, because it's the diet I feel best on. My goals are to get back close to my high school weight and to get into good shape. I guess that's it. Thanks for reading!

Well, I've been off again on again in induction. I'm planning on getting back into it seriously after Wednesday. That's when I have my final exam and Algebra and I need some serious energy for that! I noticed induction makes me a little tired. After that I am going to get very serious! That's my goal.

        Welcome Burchets!

I feel your pain. I take potent medicine which makes me really weak at times. I am sure it pales in comparison to your problem. It is a tough physical and mental struggle, but your attitude to overcome is wonderful. My high school english teacher, Dr. Dennis warned all of us that we would be facing a new metabolism in college. On average, most college students gain 20 + pounds if they do not stick to a strict regiment of exercise. So I figure, if one can beat the college bulge, then one may have a better chance of maintaining an ideal weight for themself, their spouse, and their children.
Started Atkins near the end of March 2006

          Welcome!

Atkins sounds like just the diet for you in every way. I look forward to seeing your success, and have no doubt you will do great!

          Good luck!
Female / Currently on Extended Induction (again), begun 6/2/08.

I did Extended Induction from 1/3 to 5/9 (2006) and lost 55 pounds, so I know I can do it again!
